The key sign that he won't be elected is his rank cowardice.
Precisely.
Like all bullies, Trump is a coward. Rather than debate those who challenge his (often fantastical) claims, he tries to mock and insult them. He cannot stand his ground intellectually because he has no ground upon which to stand. Much of what he says is untrue, he has no ideas, and no skills he can bring to the presidency.
He does not offer America insight or expertise or even the promise of hard work to get things done. His popularity is based solely upon his willingness to publicly demonize innocent minorities. He hates everyone who isn't straight, white, rich, male, and fundamentalist Protestant. The NYT has commented on how lilly white are the people who attend his rallies. That hatred alone can get one so far in American politics is extremely sad. We are not so noble a people as we like to imagine ourselves.
He did very poorly when Dr. Carson surged ahead in polls in Iowa, including insulting the very Iowans he wanted to vote for him.
When Trump begins to fall behind, he will drop out of the race and claim to be a victim of an unfair "media." He will NOT pursue an independent candidacy, because there is no substance to his campaign. He is motivated by delusions of grandeur, not by some vision for the future or some political idealism.
Stay tuned. He's toast. When he and Dr. Carson fall out of the race, then the real election will be in play and we can measure the parties' odds of winning.
Very true.
But it is astounding (and frankly, depressing) that Trump and Carson have held on so long within the Republican Party, when all they have to offer is hate.
well I think he represents the party well---lol---but just today he said if the other gop clowns in the race continue to pool their resources to attack him in Super Pact ads---he will run as an independent. I think this is what he should do---the gop will try to stop him at all costs. A three man race is what we need---great for President Hillary.
As I said above, Trump will NOT pursue an independent candidacy. He is too cowardly for that, and is motivated only by the idolatry that Republicans are offering him at the moment. When that tempers, he will disappear.
I think he is worse than we suspect. And I'm sure Dr. Carson is.
Yeah, I think this is worth commenting upon. As time goes on, both Trump and Carson are being revealed as increasingly bad people (perhaps even pathologically so).
Trump seems to be trying to emulate Mussolini, with his victimizing of innocent minorities, his bullying, his racism, his xenophobia, his misogyny, his Islamophobia, his pseudoscience, and his homophobia. Also the vanity and cult of personality that surrounds him is oddly Mussolinian.
Carson is turning out to be a nutcase. Despite a career as a neurosurgeon, the guy seems to think homosexuality is caused by exposure to prison sex, and that the pyramids were built by Joseph to store grain. He's also xenophobic, Islamophobic, homophobic, and (oddly) racist. And he embraces pseudoscience in the Republican manner.
And these two guys are the GOP
frontrunners! I am sorry to be so partisan, but anyone who calls himself Republican needs to admit his party has some problems. Some really, really serious problems.
