The Air Force confirmed a B-52 aircraft assigned to Minot Air Force Base conducted a flyover of the North Dakota State Fair on Friday. "We are currently looking into the matter," the Air Force said.

You know, it's not often that I agree with Mitch McConnell but he did warn everyone that lowering the threshold on judicial appointees from 60 to 51 would be something we would all regret.

And it is going to be a while before the Senate is back in Democratic control and there's a Democratic leader in the Senate with enough spine to implement reforms. It's apparent that the Senate is no longer a functional legislative body.

The US senate became a joke years ago.

Frome the very basis of representation through all the pretzel shape rule bending they have put in place, they totally abdicated any real responsibility and all of them are only there for the paycheque and the grift.

This is one of the institutions that I would love to hear the opinions of the original framers of the Constitution opine about. I think in their original repubalican, slave holding, estate owning and more ambitiously educated than the average colonist would have grasped, they saw their place as the equal of Republican Romans...what would they make of the sorry mess who now occupy the chairs?

Here's a way to view what happened today:

On Jan 6, 2021 a mob of Trump supporters violently invaded the building where Congress was meeting. Over 1,600 rioters and insurrectionists were charged and/or convicted.

In Jan 2025, the man who incited that riot pardoned the rioters. The attorneys in the Department of Justice and the FBI who obtained the convictions were fired.

Republican Senators just rewarded the man who led the effort to fire the DOJ/FBI employees with a lifetime appointment to a Federal Appeals Court.

When there are no consequences for people's actions, whether it's being re-elected President, participating in an insurrection against the United States or trying to rewrite history, we're in big trouble as a country.

NYT reported that federal criminal proceedings across NJ were canceled over questions regarding the authority of acting US attorney Alina Habba. Court hearings, grand jury proceedings, plea deals, and other hearings were all put on hold amid a challenge to Habba's authority to serve. A drug trial that was set to begin in Camden, NJ on Aug. 4 was moved to PA after a lawyer for one of the defendants filed a motion last week claiming Habba's appointment was unconstitutional.
Maria Noto, former president of Assn of NJ Criminal Defense Lawyers: “I've never seen anything like this. It seems as if anyone who had anything scheduled has heard that whatever proceeding they had had been adjourned with no new date for now."

Any conviction or civil award by Federal Courts in New Jersey could likely be overturned if the US Attorney in New Jersey, whose name the action was filed under, is found to have been ineligible for the position by a later court decision. The Federal Courts have little choice but to suspend hearings until the matter is resolved.
 
It was the height of arrogance to have fired the person who should have filled the position after Habba didn't get the appointment in order to then appoint Habba.

They didn't think this though and yet weirdly, this is exactly the type of outcome we could have predicted for this slap-dash, totally imcompetent appointment process by der furher.

Trump pulled this "temporary appointment" nonsense in his last term. The Democrats should have reformed the nomination process and the temporary appointee laws when they have majorities in 2021. But of course, they were too busy passing virtue signalling legislation instead of anticipating that democracy was under assault.
