Re: Trump Staff Picks

I guess if Trump's golf caddy could end up in a senior position in the White House, not surprised that Carson would hire his Uber driver.

How long will this one last?

NYT: Federal prisons director resigns amid Kushner, Sessions infighting on prison reform

The director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons resigned last week because of an "ideological turf war" between Attorney General Jeff Sessions and senior White House adviser Jared Kushner over prison reform, a new report says.

After less than a year on the job, Mark Inch offered his resignation to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein last week, telling Rosenstein he was tired of the administration disregarding "departmental norms," The New York Times reported Thursday, citing three officials with knowledge of the situation.

Inch felt marginalized by Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, in discussions on the prison reform legislation, according to the Times. The bill, the First Step Act, is supported by Kushner and passed the House on Tuesday with bipartisan support, but it has hit a road block in the Senate.

Inch also clashed with Sessions over staff appointments at the prisons bureau and felt excluded by Sessions from major budget and policy decisions, the Times reported.

The Times reported that Inch was caught in the middle of Kushner and Sessions' struggle over federal sentencing in the legislation, with Kushner supporting more leniency and Sessions against it...

Press aide who mocked McCain is out at the White House [CNN]
Kelly Sadler, the White House communications aide who made a imprudent comment about Republican Sen. John McCain's health, was quietly let go Tuesday nearly a month after making the insensitive remark, three people familiar with the matter said...

In the aftermath of the comment -- in which Sadler told a meeting that McCain's opposition to CIA director nominee Gina Haspel didn't matter because he's "dying" -- the White House refused to condemn her remark, and she did not apologize publicly. She remained on the staff for nearly a month before departing.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

It's a "yes" or "no" question, Betsy...

^ I've never heard her speak before, but she's unbelievable. She did a whole lot of talking and said nothing at all. I'm surprised someone didn't just scream, "Answer the fuckin' question!!!"

In her past appearances, DeVos has been embarrassingly oblivious of educational policy and regulations. It's apparent that her staff briefed her and gave her talking points. However, they forgot to practice answering "yes" / "no" questions, so Betsy just answers that she hoped they would ask, not the questions she was asked. ](*,)

Scott Pruitt Sought ‘Business Opportunity’ With Chick-fil-A While Leading E.P.A.
Scott Pruitt, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, gave a political aide the task of helping him seek a “business opportunity” for his wife with the fast-food chain Chick-fil-A.

Emails released to the Sierra Club under the Freedom of Information Act show that Sydney Hupp, a former scheduler for Mr. Pruitt, contacted Chick-fil-A’s chief executive, Dan T. Cathy, in May 2017 at Mr. Pruitt’s behest to set up a meeting.

There is a special place in hell for Betsy.

^ It took long enough and, from what I've been reading, there has yet to be an apology from either Kelly or the White House.

Watch- she's either going to show up in another agency or working for the Trump 2020 campaign.

She didn't get canned for what she said. She got canned for saying her boss leaked the story. Her now-former boss, Mercedes Schlapp, is married to Matt Schlapp, closet case head of the American Conservative Union.

Two of Scott Pruitt's top aides resign amid EPA scrutiny [CNN]

Two of Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt's closest aides at the agency resigned on Wednesday, an EPA official confirms to CNN.
Sarah Greenwalt, a senior counselor to Pruitt, and Millan Hupp, who worked as Pruitt's scheduling director, both resigned on Wednesday, the official told CNN. Their resignations are set to take effect late this week and early next week, the source said.
Hupp recently testified before the House oversight committee that she did many personal tasks for Pruitt, including house-hunting and inquiring about obtaining a used Trump hotel mattress.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

Somehow the Trump Administration has managed to find a right wing conservative Republican who is gay. Richard Grenell was appointed to be Ambassador to Germany. Ambassador Grenell has a same sex partner who held the Bible during the swearing in ceremony with VP Pence (of all people). Mr Grenell has already managed to offend the German government:

German lawmaker says U.S. Ambassador Richard Grenell should reconsider role after 'empowerment' comments [USA Today]

U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who is scheduled to meet with German Foreign Ministry officials on Wednesday, needs to rethink his role in Germany or risk becoming a "highly ineffective" ambassador, a prominent lawmaker from Chancellor Angela Merkel's conservatives told DW.

"[Grenell's] time may be quickly running out to be an effective and workable ambassador to this country," Andreas Nick, a Christian Democratic Union (CDU) lawmaker who also sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee in the German parliament, said on Tuesday.

Grenell has been roundly condemned in Germany after he said it was his goal to "empower" anti-establishment conservative forces in Europe in an interview with right-wing news outlet Breitbart.

Grenell's language, Nick said, was "highly inappropriate" and, when translated into German, reminiscent of language used by extremist politicians in the 1930s.

I'll bet Pence was hating this. Too bad we can't read minds as he is not fond of gay people.

Re: Trump Staff Picks

And then there is this bright light, Heather Nauert who praised D-Day as a symbol of the strong ties between the US and Germany.

A State Department spokeswoman has been ridiculed for citing the D-Day invasion as an example of America’s “very strong relationship” with Germany.

“We have a very strong relationship with the government of Germany,” Heather Nauert said.

“Looking back in the history books, today is the 71st anniversary of the speech that announced the Marshall Plan. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion. We obviously have a very long history with the government of Germany, and we have a strong relationship with the government of Germany.”
