Watch him obtain a stay.
You can only get a stay if you can convince a court there's a possibility that you will prevail upon appeal. They are much harder to obtain in civil actions and far too easy for wealthy people to obtain in criminal prosecutions.

NY Banks as a policy don't lend Toad money. That's why he ended up with all those shady bankers in Europe.

If however he's borrowing against equity, that effectively places the properties in question under lien, and the banks are going to low ball the valuations just like he liked to inflate them.

I'm not sure how he gets to over 400 million though, and there are other parties involved in some of them.

The horde will end up paying, and the RNC.

I think that if any of the appellate courts were willing to help, they'd have done so by now. His arguments are literally ridiculous. The only way any of it succeeds is if a majority of judges on the panel (I think NY has three) blatantly ignore the law.

He says that he needs to pay less or not at all because he can't, and if that is accepted then he is admitting that he's a liar and fraud, and that will come up in any appeal he manages to get.

But he's not there yet.

Except DeutscheBank. The NY bank exclusion was the weakest part of Engoron's ruling and it was going to fall.

The RNC has $9 million on hand. Trump is spending more money than he is taking in. He's already drained the bank accounts of senile older donors who signed up for recurring payments.

The monthly interest on Trump's judgment is now over $3 million per month. Trump's denial has painted himself into a corner because he had the option of selling assets in 2023. He cannot find a buyer and close on the sale of a property that he has a net interest in before March 25th.

Unless a wealthy Russian, Saudi, Israeli or Emirati billionaire bails him out, Trump is unlikely to be able to come up with half a billion dollars before the NY Attorney General starts asset seizure.

The Courts are setting up a dangerous situation: In order to avoid civil and criminal penalties, Trump has to be in the White House. In order to avoid those same penalties, he must remain in the White House in perpetuity- until he leaves feet first.

Kara - since you commented that we shouldn't rejoice about Moscow Mitch's resignation until we see who replaces him; can we rejoice now?

Not as long as Matt Gaetz is crowing about the Freedom Caucus' latest "wins":
We’ve now 86’d:

McCarthy
McDaniel
McConnell

Better days are ahead for the Republican Party. https://t.co/qZEZ7s9Ly6

And the Freedom Caucus Xcrement account:
Our thoughts are with our Democrat colleagues in the Senate on the retirement of their Co-Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (D-Ukraine).

No need to wait till November… Senate Republicans should IMMEDIATELY elect a *Republican* Minority Leader.

I know, I keep having visions of Minority Leader Cruz.

Shudder...

If he has enough real estate, there is a way. He could accept whatever low valuations the banks are willing to offer. They make a profit if he pays, and they probably stand to make more if he defaults, at least, that's what I'd take to bail him out, he can't abscond to Moscow with Bedminster,

Unconceptually, I agree. The problem is that it's hard enough to clear title and close on a single family home in less than 30 days. Selling a commercial property in Manhattan or a golf course is going to take months before it becomes cash in bank.

^^IMO, his biggest problem would be trying to re-aquire those properties if he winds up acquitted
Pardoned, you mean. ;)

quelle surprise.
Back in 2016, there were some stats that came out about how litigious Trump was and about how many civil suits Trump had been involved in.

I'm curious what that number is now... and how being "on the wrong side of the v." might have changed since.

Trump is scheduled to meet with Viktor Orban at Mar-A-Lago next week.

Wonder if Orban will bring the Kremlin dosh with him in cash?

I suspect that Orban will make a play for Transcarpathia if Trump wins and hands over Ukraine to Putin.
