Since Trump bought it, the club has struggled to find business. It's in the heart of Miami and the real estate is far more valuable than the property will ever be as a resort.
In 2019, articles came out talking about how decrepit the property is and how it has struggled to get bookings at the 700 room hotel.

At Doral, which Mr Trump has listed in federal disclosures as his biggest moneymaker hotel, room rates, banquets, golf and overall revenue were all down since 2015. In two years, the resort's net operating income - a key figure, representing the amount left over after expenses are paid - had fallen by 69 per cent.
Even in a vigorous economy, the property was missing the Trump Organization's internal business targets; for instance, the club expected to take in $85 million in revenue in 2017 but took in just $75 million.
"They are severely underperforming" other resorts in the area, tax consultant Jessica Vachiratevanurak told a Miami-Dade County official in a bid to lower the property's tax bill. The reason, she said: "There is some negative connotation that is associated with the brand."
After Trump became President, he tried to get the G-7 Summit held at the Doral Resort. At the time, there were rumors that Trump was looking for investment to address the problems at Doral, including getting the US Government to chip in some money to prepare the club for the G-7. After pushback over ethics concerns, Trump dropped the plans for the G-7 Summit at Doral.

In 2022, Trump managed to get local authorities to approve building 2,300 luxury homes on the Doral property. Now, with the real estate market in Florida under downward pressure due to low sales, the Doral project is adding a large number of luxury homes at a time when sales are down.

Now, in 2025, there's rumors that Trump is looking for money for Doral again. And guess what...
President Donald Trump is quietly discussing plans to host the 2026 G20 summit, a forum of the world’s largest economies, at his Doral golf club in the Miami area, a White House official told CNN.
The idea has been discussed for weeks, the official said. CNN previously spotted an aide carrying a “G20 Miami 2026” sign into the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in June.
Bloomberg first reported on the proposed plans.
Trump had previously planned to host a G7 summit at his Miami-area resort in 2020 during his first term, but ultimately reversed course after facing widespread outrage over the decision to host the major gathering of world leaders at his own property.
Last week, Trump's opening of a new golf course in Scotland was broadcast on the official White House news feed.
More and more, we're doing to see a blur between Trump, the Presidency and the Trump Organization, as Trump looks for ways to infuse cash into his struggling businesses.
