You could see it coming a mile away...even before the trial started.

There is no way that Trump would appear on the stand. He would incriminate himself and be uncontrollable.

And even if he didn't, the media circus would be so fucking crazy that he actually would lose a huge bloc of support for his 2024 campaign. Both endorsements and financial grift.

It was one thing to normalize sexual assault by grabbing women by the pussy...it still is another thing entirely to be testifying in your own rape trial.
 
The funny part of the NY Times story is that the Court's decision ordered Trump to pay the Times' legal fees. Trump doesn't pay his own legal fees, so is there any expectation that he will pay the Times' legal fees?
 
I'll bet that TrumpCo. has never paid costs for lost cases.

And what will the Times do. Sue him for them?
 
If Trump doesn't pay, the court should hold Trump in contempt for disobeying a court order. No? But that probably won't happen either.

Based on the reaction of the Deplorables to his "grab 'em by the pussy" bit, I suspect that many of them don't really believe that acquaintance rape exists.
 
These are cases, not criminal ones. If they find him in contempt for not paying, he won't be locked up, most likely a fine would be imposed, if he ignored that, they could put a lien on his property until he pays, if he ignores that, the court can then sell his property to pay. It will depend on state law how the specifics of any of that work.

Or the court can just ignore it also, and nothing happens. I suspect though that the lawyers will keep making noise until the court acts. It's their money after all.

The smartest thing to do in the rape case (aside from not choosing to be a disgusting rapist) would have been to just let the judge decide, pay what the court imposes, and walk. No cameras, no jury, no circus. There isn't any jail time on the line, and a judge is most likely to refrain from naming exorbitant amounts of money.

There never was any chance he'd get on the witness stand. No matter what happens he's going to endlessly whine about it.

But Trump can never bring himself to admit guilt or pay a substantial settlement.

So no matter what a jury decides, he can just call the whole thing a corrupt witch hunt, proclaim innocence and keep litigating the case knowing that he will never pay damages or really face any consequences whatsoever.

I can hardly wait until he starts to insult the judge and the jurors.
