I'm getting tired of hearing about the 1/2 of 1/3 of us that somehow means Trump is so very popular.
I don't care what the horde thinks. No one has started supporting Toad who didn't already lick his asshole.

It is worth realizing that under Trump, the GQP has been actually shrinking as the moderates and undecideds have left the party to the unhinged right.
So those who remain are certainly likely to be thirsty for the KOOL AID.
But a lot of others will still vote for Trump even with misgivings because they are so determined to have the Oval office and all the power back...they really don't care how awful he is...and the Republicans have not put forward a single candidate at this point who could win 2024. At some point, the whole GQP machine will swing back behind Trump again because he is the only faint hope they have. And this time, they can be sure that he would literally dismantle the federal democracy they hate so much.
So those who remain are certainly likely to be thirsty for the KOOL AID.

The problem with talking heads and politics is that they treat polls like they're coming straight from the rantings of the Pythia. Especially when the talking heads want to push a horse race narrative to drive ratings. The way they cover Toad makes him seem more important than he should be, and that pushes all the lies he tells to people who aren't interested in doing their own research to find out the truth, and some of them believe the lies for whatever reason.
When it's all Toad all the time, other candidates just get lost in the shrieking and Toady whining on all of the channels 24/7.
There is no poll that is accurately predictive this far out. People's minds start to focus when they realize an election is imminent, right now everyone is just parroting whatever corner they're already in, and the rest are blithely apathetic.
It's like polls that say Americans are wildly Christian because the people they asked said they believed in the Jeebus. OK, stopping there seems accurate, but any of us could tell you that the vast majority of those believers never set foot in a church, or worship anything, and the primary deity being begged for answered prayers in the most important Christian holiday, is an elf who lives at the North Pole.
It's not in the financial interests of the media corps however to inform us that crazy religious fascists are not in fact the majority of the country - who would stay glued to the screen without the outrage rubbernecking? Just like it's not in their financial interest to focus on the two-thirds of us (and growing) who will never vote Toad or anything imitating it.
They will attempt to stampede Toad's importance to get their profitable epic showdown, and then the rest of us have to live with the consequences.
