Delusional. For that to be true, the media would have to be selling less advertizing in a calm administration.

Broadcasting isn't newstand tabloids where sales go up with editions. They sell advertizing all the time. Programs don't have less ads when a sane person rules. Advertizing rates for non-political ads don't go down because the geriatrics watching the evening news are now watching whale stories instead of rants. The drug companies are still paying for the old folks to watch the young people use scare weather.

The media publishers are simply ambulance chasers. Trump is fire.

And the media is as good at manufacturing 'news' as reporting it. It is the nature of the beast. They are in the business of selling fear, anxiety, anger and hate.

During Trump's 4 years in office, subscriptions to the grand old newspapers increased and MSNBC, CNN, and FOX made a fortune as rage watching drew more eyeballs than the Obama years.

The nature of advertising is that the more viewer share, the higher the rates that can be charged and more advertisers with deep pockets are willing to run their ads on your platform.

But your suggestion is that the media is incapable of generating hype, hate, or hysteria without a rogue in office. Since before the Spanish American War, yellow journalism has been quite proficient at whipping up the audience no matter what times prevailed.

It's just too convenient to impute the motives to the media that are the darkest rather than the truth, that they are merely opportunists who make hay, rain or shine.

Look...media companies like CNN learned quickly that Trump was a goldmine in 2015/16 which is why they, along with a lot of other platforms gave him all the oxygen in the room.

It has also caused CNN to lose previously reliable viewers. Speaking for myself here, I watched CNN all the time since the 90s. But now I find myself watching MSNBC much more. Why? Because I am sick of the unfettered, both-sides with no fact checks viewpoint they've been presenting for the past few years. I don't want to turn on CNN and listen to republicans lie through their teeth like it's just another neutral opinion, and the anchors let them get away with it. It is (or should be) their job to search out and report the truth, and call out the lies in real time.

It's not I like don't want to hear opposing views, but they have to first be truthful, honest, and in good faith. Sorry CNN, but haters, liars, propagandists, nutcases, and Nazis do not qualify for legitimate opposing political viewpoints in my book. And won't watch news channels who pretend like they are, just to rake in some cash. CNN has only hurt their reputation for reliability by doing this.
