Trump this.

If you don’t vote for the Democratic Party you’re enabling the Republicans. This cycle your vote for the Green Party or any other isn’t a protest. It’s a vote for the republicans

100% Correct.

Any wasted vote for anyone other than Kamala Harris, helps Trump in the Electoral College.

We must not do this again!

Rapist, liar. crook. thief. criminal. grifter, user, abuser, traitor, probably trafficker, known patron of Russian KGB prostitutes, violent, greedy selfish malignant narcissist, who has promised outright to be a dictator use the army and the gubmint to persecute people he doesn't like.

If one is even considering voting for that...

THERE IS SOME COMPELLING PERSONAL REASON!!!!

But the GQP and the Kremlin see this as their game plan.

Hard to say though this time whether Stein draws off the BernieBrats hissy fit vote. Because that is what happened then...I think more people now understand that she is a cynical opportunist and Putin's patsy instead of a legitimate representative of an increasing fractured and aimless alternative political movement.

The problem I've always had with my compatriots on the far Left is that they are by and large reactionary. A lot of them are motivated by "justice" which is a legitimate beef, but not a political strategy. Sometimes that goes far into wanting punishment, and that also isn't helpful if the goal is policy. When we're talking about protest and social movement those kinds of expression are necessary, but if that's where it stops, nothing changes.

I miss the days when the far Left was as stubborn as the far Right.

In the old days, more Lefty crowd fought for 50+ years for LGBT rights and for equal pay for women.

These days, you bring up something like the Equality Act or abolishing the Electoral College or reforming the Federal Judiciary or tax reform, and the response from the Left is "Too hard! Republicans would never allow it!". These days, they are more interested in cancelling people for perceived microtraumas because you can just tweet about it.

Another one of Trump's "best people":

Trump granted a lot of pardons and commutations on his way out of the White House. Since then seven of those recipients have been charged with new crimes.

Seven.

Three of those seven recipients have been accused of domestic violence.

A Florida man who received a commutation of a 20-year fraud sentence from President Donald J. Trump in 2020 — only to plead guilty this year to a related crime — was arrested on Sunday on domestic violence-related charges in South Florida.

The man, Philip Esformes, was charged with two felony counts that could result in jail time and fines if he were convicted, according to a public records database maintained by Miami-Dade County...

Late on Saturday, Mr. Esformes verbally threatened a woman whom her relatives described as his wife, as well as a second family member, and further intimidated them by breaking items on a table filled with glassware, according to the woman’s relatives.

I happened to remember Mr Esformes. He owned over 30 nursing homes and assisted living facilities in South Florida. In 2016, he was convicted of swindling US taxpayers out of $1.3 billion by fraudulently billing Medicare and Medicaid for services that patients never received.

He went to prison in 2019 and Trump commuted his sentence in 2020, setting him free one year into his 20 year sentence.

I don't hear so much that it's not possible, more that it's going to be solved by a lot of yelling with each other online, and no one has to leave the house or have a plan to change law, let alone deal with everyone else in the country who is going to disagree. It seems like somewhere between my generation and the next, protest became the focus and yelling at the "system" was the goal, not actually changing anything real.

I can hate the "system" with the best of them, but where are the lefties making the strategic decision on finding a demographic for our message and building from the ground up. Where is our message in the off year, and local elections? Every four years the usual suspects pop out of the woodwork and righteously condemn the martyrdom of Bernie and sanctimoniously vote for Jill Stein. Then, nothing.

It's like once the screaming (usually at people who didn't make the decisions and can't change them either) is done, then we all go home and pat ourselves on the back until the next high-profile election and then start screaming again and resurrect Jill once more. It also seems like a lot of us haven't even bothered to scream at each other about anything new since 2018.

That is a valid criticism- that Democrats and progressives too often are Rip Van Winkle until any year divisible by 4 where they suddenly reawaken.

That said, they deserve credit for showing up in 2022. It was the young people who prevented the Republicans from taking big majorities in the House in 2022 (well, except for New York State).

...and righteously condemn the martyrdom of Bernie and sanctimoniously vote for Jill Stein. Then, nothing.
Keep in mind, since you live in the new home of "brotown", many of the contrarian Bernie Bros are now Trumpers. You can see a lot of them showing up at Trump rallies. They're all about Joe Rogan and crypto...

Yeah, the BernieBros are a tedious lot of whining toddler men. Once I realized none of them actually knew anything about Bernie or his policy, I felt justified in voting them off the island.

The crazy thing is that Bernie would be a centre left figure in Canadian politics.

But so many people who obviously never took a civics class in the US somehow thought that the President has magical powers, that all decision making and policy is dictated by the White House and that the 2016 election wasn't about the Supreme Court and judiciary.

Most of his most ardent stans probably still don't have a fucking clue about all of this.

So now a lot of them...looking for the magical powers of a dictator are buying into Trump's bullshit because ...why?

The most dangerous of them seem to feel that if they vote in Trump, it will bring it all crashing to the ground and then the people will somehow rise up and sweep all the politicians and obstacles aside and the US will be transformed into a liberal western democratic nation.

Sarah Silverman's callout of the Bernie Bros at the 2016 Democratic Convention pointed out the problem with the Bernie Bros: the Bernie Bros weren't as big on "Democratic Socialism" as they were interested in just being contrarians. Ironically, the "Bernie or Bust" crowd in 2016 was "sticking it to the man" by making it difficult for a woman to get elected President.

That contrarian impulse is why so many Bernie Bros backed Trump in 2020. It's why you'll hear them making ridiculous statements like, "Donald Trump is fighting against the establishment and the deep state".

The "Bernie Bros" have gotten so far left, they're turning far right.

So Trump is going to ban another thing that just doesn't exist.

Go to Trump rally, get stranded in the desert for hours...

A large crowd of supporters of former President Donald Trump were left stranded in the California desert in triple-digit temperatures on Saturday evening after not enough buses turned up to transport them from a controversial rally back to a parking lot.

Thousands of people arrived to hear the Republican nominee for president speak at Calhoun Ranch in the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, where temperatures reached more than 100 degrees Saturday afternoon. According to media reports, rally attendees who parked their cars in a lot used for the event were loaded onto buses and driven 5 miles to the ranch.

But when the event was over, attendees waited hours for buses to take them back.
While his followers were collapsing from heat exhaustion at the rally and standing in the dark in 90 degree heat waiting for transportation, Trump was exaggerating the crowd size by 700%.
The Desert Sun reported that, despite Trump’s claim that more than 100,000 people attended the rally, a permit for the event issued by the county capped the venue’s capacity at 15,000.

Also at the Coachella rally, there was another security incident that wasn't widely reported in the media:

According to Forbes, a Las Vegas man was stopped at a security checkpoint outside the rally after presenting a fake VIP pass. The man, Vem Miller, was subsequently arrested on firearm charges after officers allegedly found an unregistered shotgun and handgun — which were loaded — as well as multiple passports and ID cards with different names in his vehicle, which had a fake license plate.

The man claimed to be a Trump supporter. One serious issue with Trump rallies is that the MAGA movement has a lot of people who border on mental illness, are anti-government and have a lot of guns. It's getting harder and harder to tell the average MAGA follower from the mentally ill.

Dan Rather is noting that the media is now beginning to report on Trump's mental decline...but I look at the time to the election and fear too little too late. But he does take the media to task over 'sane washing' Trump's bizarre breakdown.

Which makes the possibility of him becoming President even more terrifying. It's bad enough that he's evil without adding mental derangement to the mix.
