The funny thing is that although my parents didn't hang around with many stupid people...I started being able to recognize them when I became a teenager and listened to some of them talk about some things and then when I started working as a teenager, I started to have a hard time stopping my eyes rolling back into my head (back in the 70's) when I heard some of them...but in those days, there were no really far right conservatives and we were all pretty happy to be living in a centrist liberal/conservative country.

It's a lie based upon half-truths, like most of what is reposted from right-wing disinformation sites.

The reason that people in some areas were temporarily in tents is that the flood waters washed away structures and roads. The only thing that the State could get in was tents because those can be dropped by air. Trailers can't be dropped in, they have to be hauled by tractor trailer. No roads, no trailers.

The recommendation was that people in washed out areas without roads, electricity or safe drinking water leave the area. FEMA funded hotels if the person did not have flood insurance. The guys working on repairing the roads and getting power back on were living in the tents (provided by FEMA) eating hot meals (provided by FEMA, the State of North Carolina, NGOs and private companies).

The first time there's a cholera outbreak because the locals want to live in trailers without clean water and safe sewers, they'll blame the "guv'mint" for it. :rolleyes:

In addition to delays caused by weather and permitting requirements, finding accessible locations continues to prove challenging.

"Logistically, this is a very hard place to come and place a temporary shelter for water and sewer purposes and the layout of the land. We're in the mountains. We're not flat," Barrier said. "We've tried to work with area campgrounds and other places, but none of that has worked out yet."

It's to the point that it's hard to distinguish the disinformation coming from Russia, from China and from the Trumpists. The Twitter sewer is just a place to spread the sewage.

If you watch Trump's lie-fest in North Carolina over the weekend, he claimed that the Biden Administration had abandoned Western North Carolina and Trump kept repeating that we don't need FEMA and that the States should take care of it. Yeah, good luck with that. Part of the problem in Western North Carolina is that entire towns were washed away. When your city hall and county offices are under 6 feet of waters, you're not going to get a lot of "local assistance".

I'm finding it hard to feel any sympathy for the people who voted for Toad. We are all going to pay for their nastiness and I find I/m not interested in paying taxes to help them out.

See- that's part of the problem. Asheville is a Democratic town full of granola eating, goat yoga enthusiasts who attended one of the half-a-dozen universities in the area. They've been gerrymandered into Republican guaranteed districts. represented by guys like Mark Meadows and Madison Cawthorn.

It's wrong when Trump shows up without a FEMA administrator, the governor of North Carolina and the Senators from the State and blames everything on Biden. It's equally as wrong when anyone claims that western North Carolina is a Republican stronghold and a) they are being punished by Democrats or b) they deserve what they got because they're poor, uneducated hillbillies who vote Republican (none of which is true).

Instead of being empathic, Trump used the trip to claim that FEMA spent its money on "illegal immigrants", instead of helping the people of Western North Carolina.
