Trump this.

So TrumpCo. is so fucking stupid they fired hundreds of people in charge of America's nuclear arsenal safety ....and now are frantically trying to re-hire them.

This is like when Rick Perry didn't know that the DoE was in charge of America's nuclear resources and arsenal.

Fool them once...

A message of hope on Presidents' Day about how Trump is sowing the seeds of his own demise. What we have to hope is that he doesn't get to take the whole world with him.

Gee. Colour me surprised?

And how much did that little flight to Daytona Beach, along with the fleet of cars cost the tax payers so he could circle the track and wave to his mouth breathers?

I had to laugh because his granddaughter was with him, and she was wearing a rainbow dress. 😂

Trump is a big fat liar.

Yet, government workers believed his offer to pay workers through Sep, 2025 if they agree to resign or retire. Trump never got Congressional approval or funding for the offer (which has been put on hold by the Federal Courts).

The retirement process is almost completely on paper. Believe it or not, there are Office of Personnel Management (OPM) workers in an abandoned mine in Pennsylvania who file paper personnel files and then process the pension applications of retiring government workers. They can barely keep up with the current volume of retirees and are wholly unprepared to handle Trump's offer. This assumes that DOGE doesn't lay off the OPM workers who handle retirement applications.

Behind the door, a room opens up as big as a supermarket, full of five-drawer file cabinets and people in business casual. About 230 feet below the surface, there is easy-listening music playing at somebody’s desk.

This is one of the weirdest workplaces in the U.S. government — both for where it is and for what it does.

Here, inside the caverns of an old Pennsylvania limestone mine, there are 600 employees of the Office of Personnel Management. Their task is nothing top-secret. It is to process the retirement papers of the government’s own workers.

But that system has a spectacular flaw. It still must be done entirely by hand, and almost entirely on paper...

During the past 30 years, administrations have spent more than $100 million trying to automate the old-fashioned process in the mine and make it run at the speed of computers.

They couldn’t.

So now the mine continues to run at the speed of human fingers and feet. That failure imposes costs on federal retirees, who have to wait months for their full benefit checks. And it has imposed costs on the taxpayer: The Obama administration has now made the mine run faster, but mainly by paying for more fingers and feet.

Ah yes...Vice President Trump paying attention to the things that really matter in the lives of Americans today.

Oh. After the LPGA drank the Trump kool-aid and banned trans golfers from the tour (despite having had a trans player [Mianne Bagger] on the tour and an aspiring trans player [Hailey Davidson] in q-school), women's sports don't truly matter.

Just a reminder: Traditionally, Presidents will have their highest approval rating immediately after an election.

In 2017, Trump started low - with approval ratings under 50%. By the end of his term, his approval rating was in the low 30s (which is why he lost a free and fair election).

In 2021, Biden started with an approval rating in the high 50s. He squandered that high approval rating and let Trump and the RNC define his Presidency. He left office with an approval rating in the high 30s (which is why he ultimately withdrew from re-election and largely why his successor, Harris, lost her election).

Trump started, again, in 2025 with an approval rating under 50%. In the course of a month, he has dropped from a high of 47% to 44% and he's continuing to drop.

U.S. President Donald Trump's approval rating has ticked slightly lower in recent days as more Americans worried about the direction of the U.S. economy as the new leader threatens a host of countries with tariffs, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The six-day poll, which closed on Tuesday, showed 44% of respondents approved of the job Trump is doing as president, down from 45% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted January 24-26. Trump's approval rating stood at 47% in a January 20-21 poll conducted in the hours after the Republican's return to the White House.

The share of Americans who disapprove of his presidency has risen more substantially, to 51% in the latest poll, compared with 41% right after he took office..

I doubt if he really gives a shit.

He knows he only has to command the adoration of a few million MAGAts for a short time and then as dictator, doesn't even need them or their approval.

He only needs his regime to be feared.

He is planning on regaining approval through externalizing enemies. Like Putin, he will promise the stupidest and poorest people in the US riches from conquest. Like he is promising them with tariffs and threatening the seizure of resources in other countries.

And Americans will buy into this because they will have no other choice. Or at least this is what TrumpCo. likely thinks.

Of course, if the regime triggers off a recession, expect the increase in internalizing enemies as well.

He and the DoJ are working their way up to persecutions and show trials and he is definitely working his way up to declaring martial law and seizure of power in the richest blue states.

The regime is just looking for their Reichstag fire moment and I suspect that it will come in race riots planned and triggered by Trump and his brownshirts this summer.

I doubt if he really gives a shit.
As a narcissist, he's very attuned to his popularity (or as a failed reality show host, "his ratings").

Trump keeps talking about "a third term". In his delusional world, low ratings equals another lost election. We saw his mental disintegration after he lost the 2020 election. He will do anything possible to protect his fragile ego.

Trump, in idolizing billionaires and punishing immigrants may have misread the room with evangelicals.

There's quite a number of political scientists who argue that it was white evangelicals who put Trump back in the White House. There's a faction of evangelicals, like Mike Pence, who are pushing back on some of Trump's cruel, un-Christian policies. There's also a group of Catholics who are speaking out about Catholics in the Trump Administration - like JD Vance and Tom Homan- who don't appear to be familiar with the red letters in the New Testament.

I understand what you are saying, but everything I see since his inauguration is a man who realizes he isn't loved and is acting out to make sure he hurts everyone for it.

He looks and acts like a nihilist, resigned to burning everything down because he has been betrayed.

And now he has nothing to lose.

His only goal now is to remain in the White House until he dies and to bend and break the justice system so that he can never be sent to prison for what he does or has done. He is destroying the case records and erasing history because I think he now sees that all he really will have is his place in history.

This is not the man who, on the first day of his first term, was obsessed with what people thought of him and started running for his second term so that he could hold rallies where people would adore him.

Last year, it had to be clear to him that he had lost the widespread cult adoration for the reality tv 'star'. His crowds dropped off, the energy was gone...I think he realized he was down to a core of people who saw him as their weapon against all the people and things he hated.

Project 2025 wrote his policy book and dictated it to him, Elon Musk had to step in and buy (cheat?) Trump's way into the White House and even then it was a narrow win...we've since seen Trump sit silent while Elon takes up all the oxygen in the room and all the lingering adoration of the MAGAts.

What I see now is someone who has decided if they can't be remembered as the most admired and respected leader in US history, then he is content to be remembered as the most feared tyrant in US history. One who sees that his only path to a 'great' legacy is to rule as a Napoleonic dictator, hence the imperial dreams of manifest destiny, encouraged by the interstellar imperial dreams of the richest man in the world whose ketamine fueled delusions seem to have come to define the presidency.

I've been disappointed that we haven't been hearing more insight from Mary Trump, as she knows both the behavior patterns of malignant narcissists and of Donald Trump, specifically.

You are correct about his nihilism.

What I can't figure out is which behaviors are Trump's behaviors versus the "dance with them that brung you" payback to all the people who gave him millions of dollars. In exchange for not sitting his ass in prison for the rest of his natural life, he's in the White House and is basically signing anything that the donors put in front of him.

One only need to look at his official White House portrait to understand that he wants his "enemies" [read: the people who believe in rule of law and that no man is above it] to fear his retribution.

He's both self-preserving and self-destructive. That's something an expert on narcissistic collapse would have to explain to us.

Mary may be getting leaned on. She knows a lot but she does not have many resources to deal with the death threats that are right wing freedom of speech.

I agree about missing Mary, although he hasn't even followed her expected trajectory.

But he does appear to be exhibiting post-narcissistic collapse rage which is what I think is driving him.

I have seen this behaviour with a narcissist and even though this is ridiculously facile found a few word to describe what we may be witnessing. This is similar to what I saw happen with the person I knew. And it is not dissimilar to what we saw with Hitler as he realized it had all crashed around him.

For the person on the receiving end, someone experiencing a narcissistic collapse may look out of control, extremely angry, and vindictive. In some cases, it may look like someone withdrawing altogether and giving them the silent treatment.
For the person experiencing the collapse, the event may be of extreme emotional pain and panic, and an increased need to regain control.
