$7 million might seem to be a large number but the movie opened at a surprisingly large number of theaters- 1,778. That's about $4,000 per theater for a 4 day weekend opening.

I still maintain that if you checked the theatres in major centres, you would find that blocks of tickets were sold and no one sat in the seats.

The howler is that there is likely a distrinution clause that requires the theatres to keep it in their theatre, even if no one turns up for a show.
