TrumpCo. to Erase LGBTQ Non-discrimination Protection

You know, back in 2005 when Canada became the first country outside of Europe and the fourth country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage, it started one province at a time until the federal government stepped in and made it legal across the nation. There was all sorts of opposition, mostly from the far-right religions and the Conservatives, but our prime minister at the time, Jean Chrétien, a devout Catholic, forged ahead because it was the right thing to do for Canada. There was even opposition from then-president Bush and from the Pope. The churches here were afraid that they would have to perform the ceremonies until they learned that, for them, it was completely voluntary. Civil servants have no choice.

We're always making advances except, perhaps, for us in Ontario, whose new Progressive Conservative premier is dragging us back to the nineties, trying to undo everything the previous Liberal government put into place. Sound familiar? Even before he was elected, many people here were likening him to Trump, and we have not been disappointed.

I can hear Dan in the back just fine, despite the voices of anger in my head. My Independent ass is pulling the Democrat lever because I'd love to see his taxes and his emails. I'm positive he doesn't have a private server.

It's almost obscene how corrupt this man is allowed to be. Gosh if only somebody had warned America, or if similar events transpired in the past upon which we could design a moral compass. eh if ifs and buts were candies and nuts I'd be a lil bit chubbier. I wouldn't mind though, my bf likes my chunky thighs. :gogirl:

So, the guy who is behind the effort to undo policies around transgender people is another one of the Trump appointees whose appointment raised eyebrows.

Roger Severino is the Director of the Office for Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services. Before his hiring, he worked at the Heritage Foundation in opposition to LGBT rights and in favor of "religious freedom" initiatives. His wife Carrie Severino is the head of the Judicial Crisis Network- the group that ran the pro-Kavanaugh ads last month. Small world.

His initiatives at HHS include setting up an "Conscience and Religious Freedom Division" even though the Constitution clearly states that the government should not be advocating any particular religion.

Apparently he believes in the Constitution and upholds it just as much and as well as Trump does.

Do you suppose they've even read it?

^ Just one more step in his quest to rule the world.

Here's hoping the world gives Trump the finger.
