Trump's Fail on Syria

Great news LOL the airport is completely up and running. All that was lost was one jet fighter. Anyone that does not realze Putin Gave Trump the go ahead to help slow down the Russian Connection. The 59 Tomahawk missiles, by the way cost $29.5 Million Dollars When will this ass hole be impeached.

Considering I already acknowledged this point, no one was impressed by this statement but you. That's okay, I'll just remember to not bother you from now on since I'd rather not roll my eyes at my computer screen.

I suppose so now that I look at the issue further, which just makes the whole thing even more feckless then I originally thought.

If I misinterpreted your point or poorly crafted my response and have offended I apologize.

Abc news just exposed the fact that syria knew about the attack done for show what a surprise!

Trump should have aimed the missles and done everything himself, instead of leaving it up to democrat generals left over from Obama's regime. You just can't get good help any more.

Whatever major channel my mom watches reported the runway was back open and running, whatever damage may have been done.

Though cruise missiles aren't really meant for harming runways. We have toys for that, but none are ship-fired missiles as far as I know.

I saw a source yesterday, sadly I didn't think to save the link, that said the attack was focused on Syrian infrastructure and aircraft but intentionally avoided damaging the runways and taxiways which are what you usually do to really incapacitate an airfield. The explanation being that objective was to punish the Syrians but not impede the Russian's ability to stage their operations through the airfield. Since I suspect the Russians complicit I would not have gone this route, if that is the case.

I saw in war games in Europe just how effective cratering runways and taxiways are rendering a base useless.

Yup. Blame it all on Obama. I would have expected no less.

"We strongly condemn the illegitimate actions by the U.S. The consequences of this for regional and international stability could be extremely serious,” Russia's deputy U.N. envoy, Vladimir Safronkov, told a meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Friday.

Oh look Trump and his boyfriend Putin are having thier first lovers spat, how cute! :p

Of course Syria knew about the attack; there's a hot line between the U.S. and Russia that's used to warn each other in situations like this so World War III doesn't get started by accident. So the Pentagon told the Russians, and of course the Russians told the Syrians.

The only way to have avoided such a result would be to attack Syrian planes while in the air when there aren't any Russians nearby who could get hit.

One would just note that in 2013, when Obama wanted to strike back against Syria for killing more than 1000 people with chemical weapons, Congress said no.

In 2013, when Syrian President Bashar Assad launched a chemical weapons attack that killed more than 1,000 of his own people, more than 100 members of Congress drew a line in the sand.

If then-President Barack Obama wanted to respond to Assad with a military operation, Obama would need to get congressional approval. Striking without that approval would be "unconstitutional," 116 members of Congress wrote in a letter to Obama in August 2013.

Then this: Obama went to Congress to get approval for a strike, but was forced to postpone a vote when the vast majority of House Republicans said they would not give him the OK.

So I guess the trick is for the president to be white. And Republican. And to bypass Congress.

(Thanks again to johaninsc for this.)

Personally, I think it was more a show for Trump supporters than for Syria or Russia. Naysayers see right through the ruse.

The excuse is that you can fix the potholes on the tarmac.

Uh yeah. You can. Unless you leave more (or less) than potholes.

Taking out the bunkers probably didn't even take out any aircraft or munitions. Because the US told the Russians, the Russians then alerted the Syrians who probably made sure there was nothing of any value to take out.

A meaningless gesture.

A meaningless gesture.

Except, perhaps, a gesture to try to pull a few of his ex-supporters back in and to earn a few more of those all-important ratings points.

That's all that really matters to him.

Those really on the alt right have come out strongly against the move and have condemned what they believe is Trump's capitulation to the neocons and establishment hard liners on Russia. Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter both have put out their disgust with the move on social media as have previously gung ho hard "reich" types like Richard Spencer who says he is done with Trump.

It's a farce in that Trump ordered the missile attack but there seems to be no real change in the Syrian government's behavior... it's a half hearted move. If Trump REALLY wanted to put Assad on notice there would be an airbase consisting only of rubble left. The more we get involved the much more dangerous it is as Putin and the Iranians do not want the Assad government substantially degraded to the point it seriously faces defeat. And if they were to be defeated, just who would take charge? How much less nasty are they likely to be since the "moderate" elements in the resistance have long been supplanted by more religious Sunni hard liner types?

The excuse according to the tube last night was that they didn't want to ruin the runway because Russians used it too.

So they aimed for the planes, which of course got moved because the Russians told the Syrians the missiles were coming.

THough the tube can't seem to agree on how many planes were hit -- I've heard anywhere between one a "dozens".

From what I've read, Tomahawk missiles can fly over 1,600 km (1,000 miles) and explode within a metre (a few feet) of its target. The airport and runway should have been toast. That tells me that the misses were intentional and were nothing more than show, more for Trump's supporters and the rest of America than for Russia and Syria.

That's a pile of taxpayers' money that might as well have been flushed down the toilet... not to mention how many trips to Mar-a-Lago that would have paid for.

^It was coincidental that the Chinese leader was visiting with Donald Trump at the time the missiles were launched.

For the United States, North Korea is a much more important challenge...than Syria.
