Can any of you antipodal guys suggest how to find someone down there?
This weekend I've been in Dallas for the funeral of my great aunt. Sad as it is, it's been wonderful getting the family together again. We always have a great time together.

Another great aunt (by marriage) was talking about wanting to locate a relative in Australia. Apparently her brother died some months back. She hadn't heard from him in years. She only found out because his daughter emailed her, then she lost the niece's email addy. The niece lives in Darwin. I've got their names, but I can't track down anything on them on the net.

Suggestions?

Darwin is not a big city population wise so if it's important call directory enquiries in your country for the same information telephone number for Darwin,Northern Territory,Australia and as you have their name and address you should get a contact number very easily. Good luck.

I was going to suggest the same as in post #2 above.

If you have the address (or even part of it, if theirs is a reasonably uncommon name) you will likely be able to find them providing they have a listing.

Good luck!

If they are Australian citizens, they should be on the electoral roll. Australians can inspect the electoral roll for their state at their local electoral office; to look up interstate electoral rolls they have to go into their State's Head Office of the Australian Electoral Commission.
So if there is a Darwinian amongst us, put your hand up.

I'd rekon that link to the white pages is a great place to start Valis... let us know how you get on... I'm sure there are other things that we might be able to sort for you if that fails...

Darwin does have a very transient population.

A lot of people only move there on work contracts for a few years - and then move back to Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane or whereever they came from originally.

I have been doing my family tree for years - if you get stuck on the White Pages link - PM me. ;)

If you have no luck with the suggestions here, you could try The Salvation Army in Australia. They run a confidential Missing Persons service. They particulary try to find missing family for people. I had a gay friend from overseas use this service about 12 months before she died of cancer, it was her last hope to find her sister who lived in Australia. However if the person (or persons) don't want to be located they don't force the issue. They do however work very hard to locate missing relatives etc.
