Since they announced that Tumblr was going to stop all adult content, I followed their advice and Exported my "Blog".

instructions they provided:

https://t.umblr.com/redirect?z=http...lr.com/post/180804994948/export-your-blog&m=1

I left the process working and returned a couple of days later and hit the Download button. I got a Binary File of 1.449TB and a same named Compressed (zipped) file with no content. I am at a total loss as to what the next steps are. I tried to unzip the Binary File but that did nothing.

Did I screw-up somewhere?

thanks,

I think I'd try again. Nearly one and a half terabyte seems incredibly large unless you had a huuooooge blog.

Well I started it in October of 2012 and have added to it monthly. It had 18,963 posts, mainly pictures. I said TB didn't I. Maybe that should be 1.5GB. It is 1.5million kb.

Mine has only a few posts but took more than the hours I had left in the day I tried. I opened it again today and finally saw links, but the backup (zip) file was empty. I'm trying again now.

EJ,

The backup folder was empty on mine too, but there was a ZIP file below the folder created at the same time with the same name as the Backup folder. I tried copying the Zip file into the ZIP folder. I then tried to unzip the file and it asked where to put the unzipped. I completed that and it supposedly performed the unzipping, but all I have in the target folder is the zip file saying it is a binary file.

I downloaded an app called ISOPower-Pro and used it on the ZIP / Binary file. It extracted ~4,500 files. My tumblr had 18,000 posts and 80% or more were PNG / JPG files. There were a few GIFs and Vids, but not many. I suppose some didn't make it.

Ok, I found some GIFs, so maybe it just timed out.

This sounds like a workaround for users to save a Tumblr account file that could be accessed offline from the hard drive of the computer. You may wish to contact the Tumblr helpline on converting the export results into a usable form offline - the link Rand provided wasn't clear on this. Since the account file has been saved and hopefully the intent is only for your private use offline, there shouldn't be any issues arising from the new rules on prohibited contents for online access.
