Twins Come Out To Dad [MERGED]

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

For all we know they could have asked their Father if they could post the video on the internet before they actually did it, either way I don't see why this is something that has to be private. To me this reveals the reality of what many people have to go through that people who don't understand probably see as a simple thing or such a minimal thing, when it isn't. It opens light to people, whether the coming out goes good or bad. People will see the reality of what it is like and that there are kids who are shown absolutely no love from their Parents. And how horrible that is.

At the same time I see this as a chain reaction event as well, these videos actually might encourage younger people or people in general to come out of the closet. Yes, there will be cases that aren't so great and accepting, but a lot of people come to realize that it is better being out then not. Losing a few people on the way because of their own hatred and/or ignorance becomes so minimal and these people end up not mattering in your life if they refuse to change.

I'd rather these types of videos catch on then most of the other shit people latch on to.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

I wont watch it. It creeps me out a bit that they recorded their Dad. Some things are meant to be private IMO.

So what's next..a parent taping themselves telling their wife and children they are gay?

Yeah, maybe he doesn't want to be 'outed' as a parent of gay kids just yet. Maybe he needs time to adjust – at home, at work, etc.

Outing themselves on line might work out well for them, but they should have left pops out of that.

Seems selfish – uncaring.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

It does have one really eye-opening aspect to it that I really think all straight adolescents should see and that is the emotional strain young people go through coming out.

For me it was as unstressful as possible yet even so just before committing myself I had butterflies in my stomach.

People should be aware that they personally will never have to suffer that moment where one comes out to parents as they should also be made aware how painful and difficult it can be.

^ And their biggest fear didn't seem to be telling him, but losing his love for them.

Except, most homophobes, particularly those taught to be through religions, want homos to feel ashamed – to 'suffer'.

I imagine quite of few of them quite enjoy that aspect of these videos.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

Why would they enjoy the aspect of the videos where the parents are accepting?

Why do you insist on bringing down these types of threads?

I'll bet you'd be a much happier person if you'd learn how to read. :)

You remind me of high school dropouts who are always grumpy cause they never know/understand what's going on.

You remind me of someone who needs to resort to insults because they backed themselves into a corner and can't further explain their points. So they take it out on the individual who put them in that corner, when it was their own fault to begin with. :)

Get back to me when you learn how to read.

Talking to/typing for those who can't read is a waste of time.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

If you can't answer the question I posed, just say so. I don't have reading problems. Unless it is because you're baiting and trying to get a rise out of me, which would make sense.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

I think he means the answer is already above if you're willing to look, and he doesn't want to repeat himself.

I think people are a bit cynical because it's YouTube and YouTube has raised up a generation of attention whores. Someone already mentioned how one guy raises thousands of dollars from his video, also many people don't realize YouTube pays people once their video gets a certain number of hits.

After reaching a certain age you realize some moments are meant for privacy, and anything but reeks of attention whoredom. They obviously didn't tell their Dad the whole world was going to be listening in on their conversation. They probably did later, but who knows. These guys have a following for the same reason Ethan and Mark have a following. They're pretty to look at, and btw Ethan and Mark probably make their living off YouTube hits!

So true.

While I was preparing to come out to my parents back in November, I could swear I could feel myself shaking at times. Even though it went incredibly well with both my parents, it was still one of the most frightening & emotionally draining things I've ever done.

Can you explain why it was? Obviously you worried they wouldn't react well, but what in your past made you think they wouldn't?

And I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Our society is a complex system. And everyone deserves the opportunity to make money in whatever way they can. If they have good looks and people enjoy looking at them, why not take advantage of that?

I say that fully admitting that I enjoy looking at good looking people. In fact, I admire them.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

It's strange that this video garnered millions of views because nothing in that video was extraordinary considering there are maybe a thousand other coming out videos on youtube with some being very moving. It's nice that their dad accepted them but the dialogue was not so impressing that the entire gay media picked up on the story. I found the relationship between the sons and dad to be bit distant and emotionless.

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

It does strike me as weird they have uploaded this online, or recorded it at all (same goes to all the videos). But I guess that is the way of the world for more and more people now and it does not really bother me, more confuses me. I have friends a few years young (say 20/1/2) that post so much crap online, just every picture they take no matter how poorly its taken - everything has to be lived to be viewed and liked.

Also what is up with parents calling twins super similar names - its really weird. I have identical twin sisters, and my parents picked did not pick similar names at all - but they took proactive steps to make sure they lived fairly separate lives I guess (different clothes when we could afford, asking the school to keep them on opposite sides of the year at school so they never had classes together etc.).

Re: Video: Twins come out to dad

My gaydar isn't working with these two. They do have beautiful eyes.

BTW, congratulations to Austin and Aaron and their dad!

Good on them.
Don't most gays behave/sound like that ?? :)

They never really talked about LGBT matters before, so I had absolutely no idea how they would react to it. Now that I know that they are fine with it all along, I should have talked to them sooner about it.
