  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Twitter hero(es) help track down hate crime suspects...

Yep. Happens ALL the time. Though I think "making it up" is a stretch.

There seems to be an air condescension in your post (that I do not appreciate) implying that one shouldn't speculate and/or have opinions about a case in the early stages.

Even though many of us here call bullshit at the way the case is being handled, several of us have stated that we'll watch things play out and see what develops. So, I don't understand your snarkiness at this point. You almost come across unnecessarily bothered by our commentary...as if the perps are family members of yours.

Forgive us for being outraged and disgusted by this case.

Also, I am sure I have seen you walk the line of "trial by internet" in other cases presented to this forum before. Why target this one so relentlessly?

His objections to rushing to conclusions are selective. It pretty much kicks in when he seems to identify or sympathize in some way with the perpetrator(s) of an event which is basically indefensible-- a gay hate crime, the slaying of an unarmed black teenager, etc. So he plays this "voice of objectivity" game as a way to defend the perp in question without actually committing himself to trying to defend what was done.

It doesn't kick in in cases involving people belonging to groups he's happy to stigmatize-- such as the uneducated, the poor, etc. Those people are fair game to leap to summary judgment on and he does so with his usual long-winded sanctimoniousness.

You know what the scariest part of all of this? It's who raised the homophobic bitch Kathryn Knott to be what she is. I'm talking about her police chief daddy, Karl Knott.

I'm not saying family members ought to be held accountable. I have a cousin serving a life sentence for drug related murder. But someone raised her to be a homophobic entitled bitch, and that person is now a police chief.

I can only hope that this experience, and the attention it got, will change the lives of at least one of the haters in a positive way. We still have to wait to see what happens with Kathryn Knott.

We are not born with hate. It is a learned experience. That says a lot about our society and how far we have to go, yet I do see hope.

There is nothing particularly scary there. As in every profession, there are good and bad representatives.

It also doesn't follow that Ms. Knott was specifically taught homophobia, or racism, or any other vice. She was possibly raised privileged, even spoiled. In such an environment, it is completely possible that any anti-egalitarian views evolved through her own social circles. She didn't have to attend a Klan rally in order to have picked up such views.

Equally unnecessary is her family having to know or share her bias. If she did evolve her own views, it doesn't have to follow that she argued out those views in the presence of a mother or father who disagreed.

Of course, it is still possible her father is some Archie Bunker-like bigot, but short of having that knowledge first-hand, it is presumptuous to speak about such private aspects.
