Two country music stars came out this week.

All I can say to Billy Gilman and Ty Herndon is this, Congradufuckinglations! You both had some serious balls to come out of the closet in what appears to be a pretty homophobic genre of music. Hopefully this means that like rock n' roll and heavy metal, country becomes more accepting of all kinds.

But the fight isn't over yet....Ty Herndon still has to face fans due to the fact that he's playing with Charlie Daniels for a Christmas charity concert....And sadly, there's still a chance that Ty could get booed off stage. Hopefully that ain't the case, but you know what? Hope for the best but prepare to hear the worst.

Really? These two men are NOT STARS when someone high profile like Kenny Chesney then it would REALLY mean something. It always seems like the NOBODIES do it and that is sad. For these low profile gay guys they get a lot of media attention. I looked at Ty Herndon's wikipedia page he only has two gold albums in his entire career he is NOT a country music star. I think it is a positive step forward BUT I think for the rest of the USA to give deal is when a star does it.

I don't watch it tho. But are there gay charcters (country music singers) in the tv show Nashville?

Yes the handsome chris carmack's character Will Lexington is a gay man and I do believe his story is about Kenny chesney. Remember, chesney had a fraud marriage that got annulled almost ten years ago.

Oh, it's you.

Go away, you.

So...how many Gold Albums do you have?

I always thought Boo-Boo was the brighter star.

I'm with Morrisey here. These guys aren't stars except in the most generous use of the term. This is more akin to pro sports players coming out after they retire. This doesn't mean they shouldn't have come out, of course, but their hits are getting pretty tiny in the rearview mirrorvat this point.

I'm going to keep holding out for the first Broadway star to come out.
Breaking down barriers ;)

It matters that they came out, not that they're the top of the food chain, which is what Morrisey was whining about(to paraphrase him, it's meaningless that these two came out because these two aren't the hit makers people are familiar with - which, of course, is bullshit). The word star hasn't meant much in over a decade - we care more about that woman going to jail from one of the Real Housewives series than we do about these two, but that says a lot about us and nothing for these two men.

Of course, we also may not care because these two aren't as hot as Gilbert up there, but I haven't looked at the two men that came out so I can't confirm or deny this theory.

Oh, I'm stoked that they came out. Don't get me wrong. But in Ty's case, anyway, it's something of a case of him staring at the closet door long after the closet crumbled around him. He was arrested almost two decades ago for supposedly soliciting an undercover cop, and exposing himself to him. I remember him being all over the tabloids at that time, angrily denying the "slander" that he was gay.

^Well that's news to me - but of course, I was also 10, so unless you were a wrestler, a cartoon or a Power Ranger i'll have a hard time remembering you from TV.

Symbolically speaking yes these two male country singers coming out is news. However, it is ephemeral it has no lasting meaning. Most people have NEVER heard of these two men. And just because I have a different opinion does not mean I am against these men. All I am saying is the general public is apathetic to these men. When someone like a closet case such as Kenny Chesney comes out that will be a game changer. It is the same thing with pro sports Jason Collins did his bit but he came out as an old man at the end of his career. Now Collins is retired. Did Collins change the NBA I would say no. Same with these country music singers I doubt Nashville cares.

Billy Gilman is from my state. Was semi-popular before he hit puberty and his voiced changed

To be clear, Ty Herndon just hit the charts as part of the duet with Teri Clark called Dents In The Chevy.

There you go. Slow and steady. And still homo.
