  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Two finger sign, what does it mean?

Perhaps they turned it sideways to avoid confusion with the British two-finger salute.

As I recall with the back of the hand facing outward it means "F..k off" with the palm facing out it means "Victory" but that was in the old days. I'd be interested to learn how it is interpreted now.

It's the same as the single finger, but is more common in the UK.

There's a stupid legend that almost certainly isn't true about it having originated with the archers at Agincourt.

OK, I'm stupid but what does the two finger sign mean? I see it in web pic's but have never seen anyone do it in real life. Here is a sample: http://s1.xtube.com//photos/20061124...V7hjcz9Mjk.jpg

It means "Fuck off".

It is also known as the M4-Brachio-Digital Reflex - if somebody beeps at you on the M4 Motorway, that is the automatic stance to assume until further details become apparent.

It IS in fact true.

The sign V was given my English archers as they escaped from the French. The reason being, upon capture, the French would cut off one or both of the Archers fingers to prevent them from firing a Bow...

Upon escape with their fingers still attached, the English flipped them the V in order to indicate "ah ha, fuck you.. ive still got my fingers!"

Sounds far fetched, but it IS a well documented fact.

Cool post!! Thanks for the interesting info!! ..|

Doesn't sound far fetched to me! Sounds like a legitimate part of history to me! Thanks for the explanation!

fuzzy64 is correct, at least for the American version of the gesture.

It is also a gang sign in some communities, but I don't know anything of it's meaning or connection.

I thought for saying "fuck off", the two fingers have to be close to each other, more like || than \ /. Basically, the pope's two finger sign turned around.

What is it when someone just shows the first finger and the little finger?
