  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Two hours sleep...

That does suck. I have insomnia but it's at the point where it only flairs up once a week or so. It's felt great these past few months to sleep like a normal person.

How often does it affect you? Do you take anything when it does?

One word.

Trazadone.

I hear you! I used to get insomnia so bad, I would go a week or two at a time only getting a few minutes of broken sleep all night. Then the more tired I got, the less I was able to sleep! Thank gods I discovered weed.

Pretty sleep deprived right now, but its because I have the flu and feel too crappy to sleep.

Tuanal and Seconals are habit forming.

Trazadone not so much.

Ask your doc about Trazadone.

It is great for shift workers.

Even in the good times, it's rare that I get more than four hours on a weeknight. I seldom start feeling tired before midnight, and no matter how tired I am I never fall asleep in under an hour.

And it's been that way since I was a kid.

But having under an hour on two consecutive nights is pretty rare.

I refuse to take anything stronger than a mug of cocoa and two valerian supplements. If I do, I know I'll never come off it.

Have you tried watching a documentary on the history channel?

Seriously, the monotone narrative will usually put me to sleep, even when I have a bout of insomnia. Find something boring on TV and try only listening to it.

Plan B: Get up and use the time to do something else.

I don't *have* a doc. You know that.

Well normally, I would say that isn't anything to lose sleep over.

But in your case.....we'll all just wait until you finally have a psychotic break from sleeplessness or plunge into a black despair so dark that it will make your usual flirtations with clinical depression look like a romp through a meadow.

Two hours? Two whole hours?

I'm envious.

And you, Mr. Man, should know by now that this just isn't good either. You need a hot turkey dinner, a bowl of pasta, a glass of warm milk with vanilla syrup and a cat to lay down beside you to stroke until you....just.....can't......stay........awake........

Oh. And a trazadone.

I haven't had a depressive episode in over a year, I'll have you know. St. John's wort is marvelous stuff.

My one and only remedy that actually worked for me was going on a marathon day, I stayed up all night and day and did not go to sleep until 9:00/10:00 PM later that day.

Gah, that would guarantee insomnia for me! Once I reach a certain level of tiredness, I can't sleep. Its hell when I work events, I can have a 16 hour workday, and be so tired I can't sleep... and I have to do another long day the next.

I can maintain (if I exercise and control stress levels) a regular sleeping schedule of "retiring for the evening" at around midnight, and being asleep by 2am. If I use every technique and ounce of self-control, I can move that to being asleep around midnight, though I can expect at least one insomnia cycle/year.

At this point in my life I flat-out refuse to take a job that requires starting work before 10am for any length of time. Its not worth it, sooner or later I will become a zombie and/or call in sick. Contrast that to most of 2009 when I started at 11am for my part-time job, then went to my own office to work. I averaged 50 or 60 hours/week, often being at work 6 days/week, for the busy season of May-Oct.

I feel yea, insomnia sucks, sleeping meds didn't work for me, I find myself spending the midnight and early morning surfing the internets, or telling my kitten to calm down/stop biting my hand, it's not a toy.

I don't get the warm milk thing. I used to have that shit real bad and always stay up. Usually til like maybe 6 or 7 in the morning and I'd be fucked the rest of the day.

But now I work the graveyard shift and I get off work at 8 in the morning. I sleep better and I'm healthier :D

I always try to get 8 hours of sleep a day now before my shift, eat all the main courses of the day, take a snack with me to work, and I'm good.

Maybe not for all people but for me if I can't sleep masturbation sometimes helps. Just using my laptop to jack off to some hot porn or no visual material and jacking it a few times helps.

Bright screens help as well. Sometimes just playing a game or something that bright, sharp, LCD display makes me drowsy. The temperature can also have an afffect on you and help or not help you sleep as well. For me cold temperatures put me to sleep pretty fast.

Oh right and showers. Showers, bright lights, and masturbation. That's probably better than some pill. Sometimes meals can make you sleepy too.
