Would you cite a few cases where the Singapore authorities have imprisoned people for simply being homosexual? Your thread title is rather misleading for it attempts to suggest that you can be imprisoned in Singapore simply for being homosexual.

There are many redundant laws on the statute books of American states, on the topic of buggery/sodomy that are no longer enforced.

I appreciate that Singapore has a reputation for being hyper strict on applying laws relating to drug trafficking. And also for street littering!

I have visited Singapore for work purposes and rather enjoyed the clean streets, and very safe environment. The crime rate in Singapore is very low.
I did not feel I was visiting a police state. The police presence was virtually invisible.

Singaporean here. Recently, the guy who literally built our nation declared that homosexuality is a normal, genetic thing. And he doesn't mind gay people in his cabinet. This guy is bloody important to Singapore. Whatever he says, goes.

Not a lot of people (although this law was used on some peadophiles) were jailed for being gay. Don't remember when was the last time someone was jailed. In fact, there was this great debate about it and the law was kept to please the religious masses but the government informed that this law will not be enforced. Kinda stupid and pointless but yeah. Members of parliament in the ruling party have also come out to say that it is not our business to judge and care what others do in bed.

Singapore, like most of the countries existing, is not prefect. It can be a bit shitty from time to time. Like America, we have a long way to go.

It's ok to hate on Singapore. Frankly, we don't really care. Honestly, we just don't care. It's a Singaporean thing.

Btw I'm gay, I fuck guys and I lead a prison-free life. I think Singapore sucks, but it's home.

Tan Eng Hong, the man charged with this crime, and yes it's a crime to have public sex in Singapore for both gays and straights (just like it is in the USA and scores of other countries), was ultimately fined SG$ 3,000 or (US$ 2,335), and served no jail time or any other punishment.
