I can't remember which paper admitted to it (It was a big newspaper that I remember), but recently a publication made headlines when one of its workers openly admitted that a White girl getting kidnapped will make the cover much more likely than a Black girl in the same circumstances.
True. And, as someone who has worked as a freelance photo-journalist for too many years, I can tell you another truth: reporters write stories, editors write headlines and decide what makes the front page.
Editors answer to the publishers - who usually bend over backwards to make claims of "editorial independence" while pressuring the editors to pick headlines and top stories that sell papers.
The result? Cute white college kid makes the front page.
