  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Tyler Clementi

I can't remember which paper admitted to it (It was a big newspaper that I remember), but recently a publication made headlines when one of its workers openly admitted that a White girl getting kidnapped will make the cover much more likely than a Black girl in the same circumstances.

True. And, as someone who has worked as a freelance photo-journalist for too many years, I can tell you another truth: reporters write stories, editors write headlines and decide what makes the front page.

Editors answer to the publishers - who usually bend over backwards to make claims of "editorial independence" while pressuring the editors to pick headlines and top stories that sell papers.

The result? Cute white college kid makes the front page.

I don't, clearly. I'm judging the situation based on the commonly known facts and will feel appropriately guilty if something comes along to contradict them.

Give me a break. You never bothered to come out of the closet yourself until your sister outted you. Don't act as if you're some courageous hero, and role model for any gay person, because you ain't. At all!

LOKI - your accomplishments and the things you have overcome in your life are commendable - BUT BUT BUT -- that doesn't give you the right -- nothing does -- take care of yourself - You live in your own glass house - so you of all people should not be throwing stones --

it's not about YOU -- i personally can't imagine how bad a person must feel to want to and then actually do what he did -- or more likely - he didn't want to - he just felt he had no alternatives left - he was just a kid.
cut him some slack - and since you can relate so well- be the "bigger" person.

lastly - if you don't think being "gay" is enuff of a cross- think again!!
I sincerley don't think it's about discrimination - it's truly about HUMILIATION -- !!

I'm done !!

Before I got distracted by the troll,

I meant to say that Tyler will be remembered as a kid who allowed a moment of despair overwhelm his judgement.

His death serves as a reminder of the lethal force of homophobia and hate. Preachers get up every sunday and tell the world that god hates fags. GOP standard bearers get on tv and warn of the "radical gay agenda."

He was someone's son, a talented violin player and a fellow poster here on JUB. Hopefully, that will all be recalled as well.

I can't believe that a mentally stable and balanced person would respond to an embarrassing situation by jumping off the george washington bridge.

if I can steal a quote from Buffy, the hardest thing in this world is to live in it.

if you think facing discrimination as a good-looking gay male is rough, try weighing 500 pounds. you don't even have the luxury of hiding behind a mask, you're out there and facing grief from just about everyone you encounter. and yet, I didn't respond to a hard life by offing myself.

yes, I think that makes me better than someone that took the easy way out.

Oh boy, a world of pain in one post that argues a case for the opposition not that Loki realises.

Anyway, Loki, what about losing that weight? You repulsive mentally disturbed drain on society. Only someone with severe mental issues would let themselves bloat to such jubba sized proportions. And what about health care, the resources needed to keep someone of your gigantic size alive and functioning - indeed if you had an ounce of decency or social awareness you would throw yourself off a bridge and stop being such a drain on society.

Etc etc etc

You see anyone can be a class A c*** Loki, not knowing the facts of someone else's life and attack the easiest softest part.

Tyler Clementi was a kid who had a shitty thing happen, who seemed to be dealing with it and over the course of a few hours it all got too much. He was 18, finding himself and his way in the world - it's bloody tough and it's a terrible terrible thing that he couldn't have gone to bed and decided to see how he felt in the morning.

Loki, the kind and love and respect you obviously crave, how about extending that to Tyler Clementi and cut the shit? Please.

I can't believe some people are dragging out the old "Matthew Shepherd is a martyr" routine yet again. The news magazine 20/20 debunked this storyline years ago, proving that "Saint Matthew" was killed as a result of a drug deal gone bad. But since that is an inconvenient truth, some people still cling to the ridiculous notion that that Shepherd was "murdered because he was gay". Pathetic.

Tyler Clementi will be remembered as people knew him. I didn't know him. It is none of my business how he is remembered.

The manner of his death however should be remembered as the moment we redoubled our efforts to hold bullies accountable for their anti-gay intimidation. Or any kind of intimidation. Gay or not, that's what broadcasting your roommate's private moments amounts to.
A bully should not get a free pass just because a different victim might have withstood the attack.

The manner of his death should also be remembered as the moment we redoubled our efforts to reach out to people in crisis: young people and gay people, and young gay people need to know that it gets better.

We need to teach them that when everything goes wrong, they need to think of a better way to fail than by killing themselves.

And a lot more.

Time will tell. We'll see where this goes in the courts and see if it changes legislation and laws.

I don't think that right now you can compare Tyler to Matthew. Different circumstances.

But if we are to do Tyler, we cannot leave these names out. To me they all will be remembered. Tyler got more media coverage but all these names changed everything for me.

Justin Aaberg
Billy Lucas
Cody J Parker
Seth Walsh
Tyler Clementi
Asher Brown
Harrison Chase Brown
Raymond Chase
Felix Sacco
Caleb Nolt

P.S. It wasn't just Matthew Shepard...we're leaving out James Byrd.

You make much sense sir I salute you!pride:

No salute emoticon so that will have to do.

James Byrd's death was just horrific.

Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Byrd_Jr

I remember James Byrd, and it has been a long time since I heard his name in the media. I have not heard his name raised in the coverage of Clementi, though I have heard Matthew Sheppard brought up by newscasters wondering whether there are any parallels.

Black folks, when you say there is a media bias against showing any interest in non-white tragedies, I believe you. I see it in this example.

Mr. Clementi will forever remind me of an individual that opted for the permanent solution to a temporary problem (first and foremost), but at least in his death he's bringing attention to not only 1) gay causes, but 2) bullying (even though he wasn't outright) to worldwide attention.

Every minor township to major city has its victims that remain primarily unknown except to those immediately involved. Mr. Elvin barely even touched the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg ... suffice it to say that hate has no place in our world today ... unless it's just Meg Griffin, and we didn't see her standing there.

.

I'm glad you noticed.

You're kinda new - so you will find these things out - eventually --
but ELVIN (and a few others) have been trying to make
chicken salad out of chicken shit for quite a long time.

I'm just sayin.......

Not really sure I got that could you explain a little better?

but I thought 20/20 was part of the liberal media? Don't they lie? Doesn't Glenn Beck tell you never trust the MSM? lol

Get real scrapple, that certainly wasn't part of the transcripts of the trial, or either confession

He says they make palatable the putrescence. ..|

that- and if you need yet another "picture"

Some people can separate the pepper from the fly shit !!

this is not an easy task - but if you are deliberate and focused , it can be done.

Elvin is one of those people who makes it look easy -- but it takes skill.

Have you ever tried to make chicken salad out of chicken shit? --

I've been upset about this kid ever since I heard about it last week. And every news site, or youtube site, well, reading some of the comments that people left not only disgusted me, but disturbed me. So I thought I would come here, hopefully to find like minded people in mourning and trying to figure out a way to make things better for kids in these type of situations.

All I found was similar comments but hidden behind a cloak of "well I'm gay so I can say that".

When someone decides to kill themselves, and actually goes through with it, there are no "stupid reasons" for doing it, at least to the person going through it.

If there is a god, I hope he is not letting Tyler read some of these posts, here and in other places.

RIP Tyler

Oh I gotcha, thanks for the advice then.

Ugh! You disgust me. How dare you lie about something like this. Why are you even here? :puke:

MoltenRock, thanks so much for your reasoned, well-thought-out response. The fact that it does nothing to refute the information assembled by ABC is typical. After all, why let the truth get in the way of cheap sentiment?
