Tyra Banks "I hate Being Gay"

Tyra's cool. I think she might be secretly gay, but that would only make her even cooler. Ellen #2! : p

I remember that first season show where she yelled at those very conservative right-wing homophobes and I thought that was nice.

I do think her audience is a bit naive and misinformed. I hate their expressions when the camera pans on them...It's so judgmental. I did HATE (and I mean HATE) the "gaydar" episode she did last year. That was hard for me to sit through and watch without scoffing and uttering obscenities (to myself LOL).

BTW, that first guy sounds absolutely ridiculous.

i dont remember the gaydar episode. what happened? did they just take a bunch of people and ask the audience who they thought was gay?

The last guy was really hot, yes in spite of the eyebrows. I actually feel for the kid. He was pretty much forced into one of those ex-gay seminars and classes by his parents when he was a teenager.

All in all the show wasnt so bad. Ill admit I was wrong. The previews made it look much worse.

For the person who wanted the rundown. 3 of the main guests didnt like being gay largely because of stereotypes of promiscuity and femininity in the gay community. They also felt pressures from society and family to be "normal." Nothing really groundbreaking tbh.

Tyra is still ignorant as hell because she still thinks gay men are supposed to be feminine. She basically told that first idiot that gay men who are "harder and more masculine" are probably in the closet. This person should not be allowed to have a television show.

I haven't watched the show yet. Was she saying that all gay men are feminine and the ones who are masculine are pretending or was she saying that the ones who are masculine stay in the closet because they fit in?

The first guest was a strange gay guy who said he didn't like how most gay men are so feminine. He wished they would stop being so girly. He admitted that some gay men did act "manly" but not enough. Tyra then said well maybe the guys that are more manly are in the closet. The audience clapped in agreement.

Is that not true?

Are you guys kidding me? Of course that shit is not true. Tons of gay guys are not feminine at all. And it has nothing to with trying to pass as straight. It's just not people's personality to be feminine.

Its like saying all gay guys are into women's fashion, broadway shows, and Cher and Madonna. It is mortifying that people agree with this nonsense.

I watched a part of it on Youtube before it was deleted, does anyone know of any play where I can see it online? From what I've seen man Shane has a lot of issues.

I must admit, even though I generally detest Tyra's show, this show was decent. She actually acknowledge at two different points that gay men are not stereotypes; in addition, she managed to keep the focus off herself and stay on topic.

No it's not true!! I know quite a few gay guys who are out and are NOT feminine! I find it hard to believe that some people actually think that

To be honest I find feminine guys tedious, annoying and just playing to the media's stereotype of how a gay man should be and act!!!

Well, maybe I should speak on my observations of the black gay community. I'm in my 20's. In my age range, I don't know of any masculine gay male who is totally out. Even most of the more fem gay guys are not fully out. They will go out to clubs and hang out with their gay friends, but they aren't out to family members. Also, maybe we have different ideas of feminine and masculine.

Fem - idolizes a female singer, says honey, girl or chile, wears lip gloss or any makeup, has long hair, etc.

Masc - no overabundance of beauty products, isn't in the mirror more than me, likes sports and other stereotypical macho things, most likely a top, probably bi, doesn't idolize divas, etc.

I'll have to watch this when it leaks on youtube.

Alrighty. I enjoy cooking, reading, writing, decorating, classical and jazz music, people who sing old "standards" and well, you get the idea. What am I?

Some of these qualities are so generalized. They also seem to be everything you'd see/hear in film or television.

Just watched the show on youtube.

The second guy that was featured on the show seemed like there might be some hope for him.

Everyone else on the show, including Tyra and her dumb ass sex psychologist, deserve to get smacked across the face with a dead fish.

Here is part 1 for anyone who wants to view. Seems like every guy on the show was a stereotypical feminine gay guy but that isn't surprising.
