U.S. Engaged in Torture After 9/11, Review Concludes

No doubt, it is embarrassing to be arrested. Handcuffed and finger printed as well. ANY interrogation by the police is humiliating. No doubt it is humiliating to be strip searched and cavity searched. So if we allow the silly liberals to classify as "torture" anything the prisoner does not like, we are unable to protect ourselves from criminals, much less terrorists.
Since terrorists aim to kill and disrupt on a large scale, society is entitled to interrogate suspects reasonable believed to have knowledge of plans for future activities, or the wereabouts of others having such plans. Society is entirely justified in using methods of interrogation which go beyond mere question and answer. If the terrorist is humiliated, so be it.

How debased you are.

No better than the atavistic, tribal fundamentalist extremist thugs and murderers who would seek to crush you.

I am glad that I love the true ideals of the US more than you do.

Twisted

If we catch the one left Chechnyan terrorist

I hope we don't embarrass him

I guess if we catch him we will have to ask him if it would be humiliating for him to be arrested.

I find it really amusing that the self appointed arbiters of morals and ethics in this forum who scream and bitch and condemn when we aren't nice to homophobes - apparently have no conscience or ethics at all and would have us behave with the same barbarity they use to justify their barbarity.

HYPOCRISY - thy name is - well, you KNOW who you are.

Tell us why you want the US to be a terrorist state? I for one expect better of us - you people apparently think roiling in the swill with the other pigs is some kind of patriotism. Or maybe you people are just personally amoral and violent? Who knows.

Torture is not moral, it's not ethical - hell it's not CHRISTIAN - but probably the MOST damning, it's not EFFECTIVE, which leaves the lot of you with nothing but a bunch of violent Rambo fantasies you are apparently furiously whacking off to somewhere in the dark.

Sad.

Torture - it doesn't make you man - it makes you a beast.

Nice analogy

Rick Santorum and a terrorist

Oh god

One is brain dead the other wants us (Americans str8 and gay) dead

Well if your ethics are so prissy about calling Santorum names - why do they become so expansive about torturing people.

"..BUT BUT BUT HE"'S NOT A TERRORIST!!!!!!!....." really? Give him the power and see what he does to you in the name of God.

Don't dodge the point Chance - if calling people NAMES is unethical - why is torturing people just peachy keen?

Why? Because they are terrorists? Do we torture criminals? Mass murderers?

"...BUT BUT BUT THEY DON'T HAVE INFORMATION WE WANT!!!!! WHAAAAAAA!!!!..."

Sure they do.

The only difference is in your own mind - because of the kind of person you are.

In fact we ALL know it's wrong, that's why they tried to call it something else.

The right sacrificed our integrity in order to tell themselves they have big cocks - and SOME PEOPLE are still defending that.

the kind of person i am ;)

the kind that thinks terrorists should be stopped before they kill more/again

not prevented from being embarrassed

crazy me

torture is a term misused by many to make a political point

which puts lives in danger

you're the kind of person who supports putting innocent lives in danger

to make a political point

go for it

own it

if i were your friend i'd say something stupid like

"i wish u were the older brother of the 8 year old boy killed at the finish line - and i wonder how you would feel"

but i won't

Oh spare us all the weeping and the tear jerking, much like jingoism it's the last resort of people without an argument. The only thing worse than the abominable is people who wrap it up in innocent blood in order to hide it.

Wait, we want to prevent terrorists from hurting more people and therefore use tort... questionable interrogation techniques? So why do we not do that to domestic criminals? Is it because it's only ok if used on non-Amur'cans?

Now you mocking the very name American? You never have a good word to say about Americans, but this slur is a new low. If I made a similar slur against your country, I would be banned.

Oh give it up Benvolio. I am a better American than you are for fuck's sake. At least I have some respect for the ideals the country used to apparently have. You are the one who is making a complete mockery of the very idea and ideals that the US used to stand for.

No one approves of torture, but we disagree about the definition. For partisan purposes, the Democrats want to include embarrassment and humiliation, as well as cultural insensitivity.

Waterboarding is torture. The Bush administration approved of and carried out waterboarding of prisoners, i.e. they committed torture. It's not embarrassment or humiliation, it is the intential infliction of physical pain and suffering. The US government prosecuted and hung Japanese war criminals for committing acts of torture, including waterboarding. US courts and prosecutors have concluded it is torture. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/02/AR2007110201170_2.html

I know it's tough to acknowledge, Ben, but you support torture. I, however, do not approve of having war criminals run our government.

True if we had just tortured these folks then they would have never bombed anything.

Why isn't George W Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsford in prison for their war crimes?

Because Barack Obama , Joe Biden and Robert M. Gates - Leon Panetta - Chuck Hagel would have to go with them.

Secret Renditions are just a less hands on torture process. Torture being exported to other countries ran by the CIA.

Also, I'm fairly sure the USA Drone War would be found a war crime in the world court.

Perhaps but the definition which the definition which the Democrats attempted to enact into law, included humiliation. It was a partisan attempt to pin the label of torture on the Republicans. You cannot arrest etc a criminal without humiliation, so if that is your test then we must stop arresting. Waterboarding is a closer case but the subject discussed earlier was waterboarded 183 times without being persuaded to talk, so it can't be too bad.
