That is a small isolated case. But yes telling a student at an American public school that somehow our colors are bad is the epitome of ignorance.

Get ready for more of these aggressive actions from those who are emboldened by the recent lawsuit against the state of Arizona for trying to enforce a state law that was identical to the federal law.

It's sad when a US Citizen cannot fly the US Flag.

Denair Ca. is a Census related place near Modesto but well within the

geographics describing California, one of 50 or so states and such that

represent the United Sates. The U.S.A......an amalgam of peoples, values

and other stuff who uses a Red White and Blue symbol with stars and some

stripes as a logo and brand for the world to see. Denair officials are afraid

the viewing of an adolescent displaying the logo is going to foment trouble

or controversy in a 'town' that has a healthy number of Cinco de Mayo type

participants? Madra Dios:cry:](*,)

I celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the Fourth of July and a few other too. I also

fly the "Old Glory" at my front door and on the bumpers of my vehicles. Oh shit,

even my old uniforms have that LOGO on them......its known world-wide. Does

this DenAir activity having an impairment on my expressions of respect for

a symbol of the diversity and UNITY for which it stands? I apologise for my

inability to articulate clearly and concisely.

Fuck The School. Seriously.

A small school board in the middle of Nowhere, CA does not have authority over the 1st amendment.

The "Racial Tension" thing is bullshit. Not all Mexicans are hispanic (i.e. George Romney) and Many, many Americans aren't white.

I would sue the school so both children of European and Hispanic dicent can fly what ever flag they fucking want.

It's a Public school for Christ's sake. :grrr:

I Hope no one has a problem with this:

If the Left is to be held accountable for the actions of a sole bureaucrat in CA does that mean the Right is to be held accountable for every single fuck-up they gift us with?

BearDaddy, your title is a bit misleading. It seems, from reading your article; that the superintendent was concerned that if Mexican-American kids displayed the Mexican flag during Cinco-de-Mayo celebrations, it would lead to racial tensions because other students would display the American flag and, I suppose, violence would breakout.

I can't comment on the wisdom of the situation because the article you cite to doesn't give the superintendents reasons for believing there would be racial tensions. I don't see why it would, however there apparently was some tension in the past. However, the superintendent, correctly, believed he shouldn't or couldn't tell the Mexican-American students they couldn't fly the Mexican-American flag while allowing the other kids to fly the American flag,

Nothing belligerent, aggressive or overly assertive here palemale

BUT,

last time I looked.....the states each have a flag of their own, however

There is only ONE AMERICAN FLAG period. It is red, white and blue, it

has stars and stripes and stands (ok. I am an idealist) for all the various

peoples that make up the United States of America.

Reading the article, my impression is that they asked the kid not to fly the flag on his bike because they feel he is being deliberately provocative. Seeing the size of the flag in that picture, I bet they are correct.

I had the impression that that school is having racial tension issues between students of Mexican vs. other ethnic heritages. It sounded as if the Mexican kids were bringing Mexican flags to school on Mexican holidays, and other kids were bringing American flags to counter that.

There is nothing wrong with asking everyone to step back and avoid antagonizing others by flaunting your patriotism. There is nothing wrong with school administrators trying to keep the peace by demanding that students be respectful of each other.

This is surely much ado about nothing.

Sorry T rexx......

It may sound like a tempest in a teapot to you....

But after the past weeks of political shit we have had shoveled out across

this country means that waving an American Flag in an American City on

American Streets paid for by Americans is flaunting and or antagonizing

to anyone in America, they are cordially invited to relocate to a less volatile

and more complacent, docile or ovine habitat.

OOPS...never mind, Veterans Day is over and the 4th of July is a far bit off.

mea culpa...mea culpa

Dude - you've been told before -- there is no proof that Sinclair Lewis ever said that -- stop misquoting.

New rule:
If you want to fly the flag of a foreign country, fly it alongside the national flag of whatever place you happen to be in.

This shows a gesture of friendship between two countries. Flying only a bunch of foreign flags, especially as part of a group doing the same thing, can be seen as a provocation.

It can be seen as a provocation because it probably is.

So in this case, if some students feel an affinity to Mexico, they should be proud of that, but they are wrong if they demonstrate that with a gesture of insularity instead of unity and friendship.

The result of that provocation is to see the national flag put to use as a symbol of defiance. Well, I think flags work better as symbols of unity and friendship, but in this case defiance seems appropriate.

And by the way, let's not wait for "con radio" to say a damn thing. Let's just come up with some idea of what a reasonable response would be to this situation, and turn the damn knob on the radio while the grown-ups talk about how to make the world work better, instead of listening to, or worrying about, what Radio Morons think.

Those Mexican-American students in California shouldn't be flying the Mexican flag. After all, we stole California from Mexico fair and square.

Stole it....HELL, they couldn't get rid of this god-forsaken territory.

Take it back? Hardly, the Mexican nation is very traditional and not

(sic) Indian Givers. There is a proud heritage of commuting here thank

you ignorant gringotinoians of the world.

California has many California/Americans, regular Americans and guests...

(some invited, some not)The USA has Americans of a zillion flavors and combos,

Mexican, Asian, African, Norse et cetera....All the Americans have papers that

say they are Americans......not ____/American. Just like the Flag says and

stands for.....Primary Colors and together maybe different but together.

(OK, a bit idealistics? Lets work together for the ideal)

just a guess

i'm guessing there is no US Flag flying on the school grounds

every public school in my area (i have many) has a flag pole w/US Flag in front

At a school near here, immigrant students wanted the state flag replaced with a Mexican flag for Cinco de Mayo.

The insult wasn't even dignified with a response. ..|

I Hope no one has a problem with this:

american-flag-2a.jpg

I do.

Couldn't you find one showing the whole flag?

However, the superintendent, correctly, believed he shouldn't or couldn't tell the Mexican-American students they couldn't fly the Mexican-American flag while allowing the other kids to fly the American flag,

Rubbish and drivel.

Are you aware that this is America? It's not any other country, it's the United States of America.

BTW -- what the frak is a "Mexican-American flag"??

Reading the article, my impression is that they asked the kid not to fly the flag on his bike because they feel he is being deliberately provocative. Seeing the size of the flag in that picture, I bet they are correct.

So you think the kid and parents are lying.
Gotcha.

I had the impression that that school is having racial tension issues between students of Mexican vs. other ethnic heritages. It sounded as if the Mexican kids were bringing Mexican flags to school on Mexican holidays, and other kids were bringing American flags to counter that.

Good for the American kids for showing the newcomers what flag belongs in America.

There is nothing wrong with asking everyone to step back and avoid antagonizing others by flaunting your patriotism. There is nothing wrong with school administrators trying to keep the peace by demanding that students be respectful of each other.

The American kids are "flaunting patriotism". The kids waving some other nation's flag are flaunting ignorance at best.

The proper response from administrators would have been a general assembly explaining to kids that this is America, we wave the American flag and no other, that if you want to put some other flag on a notebook cover or something for a holiday from your former country, that's fine, but the Stars and Stripes is the only one that gets waved here.

This is surely much ado about nothing.

"When fascism comes to American, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." - Sinclair Lewis

And it will be able to do so because liberals are allowing these offenses against America.

sorry but I have to say this

who gives a good fuck about the flag if the nation is in gridlock?

it is now a useless symbol.

Being that Canada is English and French, and le Cinque de mai represents a French military loss against the Mexicans, it's difficult for me to enjoy this "Cinco de mayo" thing....I'd like to suggest celebrating "Diez de abril" instead.

That of course refers to the French army defeating Mexico and the day on which Emperor Maximilian, chosen by the French, began his rule.
