It's definitely interesting that this article is posted around the time of this Anderson Cooper thing. Very similar situation. In the world of women's soccer, it was well-known that this athlete was a lesbian. But in the public, it was not known. Simply because people didn't ask.

So, in conjunction with the Anderson Cooper thread, the two questions:

Is it her privacy and it's not bad that she never came public sooner? Or is her silence a form of denial and potential shame of her sexuality?

Should I grab my umbrella for the coming shit storm?

Hahahaa I'm not trying to mock anybody. I presented the questions of both sides of the argument; I'm interested in what people have to say about this one.

a certain JUBBER who sleeps with and fondles his gun thinks that ALL cases are the same

when they aren't

athletics is well behind the times - being gay is much tougher

for news anchors who are surrounded by other gays who are out and who work in organizations that are not only sympathetic but supportive to gays - and run in circles and in cities that are PRO gay

well for those who don't have their heads up their asses

The sooner the better. The article just came out today. And what I want to see is if people will change their views at all for this one. Because the two people are in two different contexts: the political-journalist context vs. the athletic context. They both are similar in their own professionalistic right, but still different. AC's reasons were his safety and professionalism ("tell others' stories, not mine"), while Megan's was simply "no one asked." Also, is it different because AC gets more media attention? He's on TV every day. Megan gets the Olympics every 4 years and the soccer season once a year. I'm not taking sides but I'm just pointing things out.

My view is simple: it's up to them when they come out, and judging them is arrogant plus self-righteous.
