As far as I'm concerned it just makes them hypocrites with that stupid ass shirt "give blood, not excuses". I've been looking for a shirt with a clever response to it.

As I mentioned on the other post about this, as for a year or so ago, young black women were contracting HIV/AIDS faster than any other demographic.

Are they banned, too?

Of course not.

Also, even straight women who are married to a man who has ever had sex with another man (even if it was only once 20 years ago) are banned. Until they get divorced. That seems to be the 'cure' for AIDS!

this is so dumb being as they screen the blood for diseases anyway. blood is blood. it shouldnt matter who it comes from. besides, the recipient never has to know who it came from. everyone is at risk for HIV/AIDS, not just gay men...

Are they afraid all gays have HIV/AIDS or are they afraid our blood will turn the recipients into gay as well?

pretty stupid.

It should be based on risk, not something as broad as orientation. There are STD carrying sluts in the straight world too.

If someone engages in risky sexual behavior, then sure it might not be appropriate for them to donate. There are plenty of straight people who do this and probably shouldn't be eligible. There are plenty of gay people who do not and should be.

At work we once did a all day live shot from a Blood Drive.
So the reporters took turns doing it. When our one and only gay reporter went...they faked the donation. Made it look like they had already inserted the needle by put a tube on his arm and putting lots of tape over it.

Turns out this blood center ignores the ban, they just didn't want any video tape proof they ignore it.

The FDA is corrupt, just like most government agencies. They'll approve risky medicines and deny medicines that are safe. It all depends where the money is coming from.

We've already seen that the SEC and MMS are in bed with the people they're supposed to regulate. All of these bastards are crooks. :soapbox:

You don't suppose that some on the FDA board are accepting bribes from conservatives do you?
I don't have any insight into this decision specifically. I was speaking in general. But, it wouldn't surprise me at all if anti-gay interests had a hand in this.

This is why I refuse to sign an organ donor card.

I've had people kinda get in my face about it and I always say if my blood isn't good enough while I'm alive, they can kiss my ass if they think they're getting my gizzard when I'm dead.

The FDA is very conservative.

This move, or lack thereof, doesn't surprise me at all.

There are medicines which Americans need to travel to Canada for, but have not passed the FDA's extremely, ridiculously, and recklessly strict standards.

Congress should just pass legislation already overturning FDA policy.

And how many medications do you see advertised as being recalled for causing serious, permanent or even FATAL health problems. . .AFTER the FDA approved it as "safe"?

:=D::=D::=D::=D:

I mean I know that we all want equality and all, but it baffles me why some gay people would want to help and/or protect (either by donating blood or serving in the armed forces) the ones who discriminate.

I say fuck em'

They wont get my blood even if I'm the last person on Earth with healthy blood.

Fucking morons.

I'm sorry, but if this is after 1977, this too could get you disqualified from giving blood

I think their afraid that if they give a str8 quadruple bypass patient gay blood, he'll start to coordinate his wardrobe, buy colors that look good on him, lower his cholesterol levels and start going to the gym. And the insurance industry in this country just can't handle the loss of revenues this would cause.
