UK Tourist in USA detention

Private prisons are shocking to me and so are government agencies I've never heard of.
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP, separate from ICE) will hand detainees over to Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO) for travel back to their home countries.
According to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), we probably won't have any advance notice of when Rebecca is allowed to get on a plane and leave.
It could happen, and her family find out about it after the fact!
 
Prior to Trump declaring martial law, all non cis white het US citizens should be looking at what their civil rights are...because when the deluge comes...there simply will not be the ability for public defenders to protect the rights of anyone.

When the US can just make people disappear as they have over the last few weeks, and can hold 'decent' people hostage in holding without charge indefinitely...everyone should be looking to who they can reach out to and depend on.

And I am serious about this because this is what a lot of very savvy people are suggesting on SM.

If Trump is able to declare martial law...I wouldn't want to be a cocksucker in the US.

The Burke family should have contacted the UK Embassy's online portal for updates on changes to travel requirements by the United States.
The British Embassy in Washington DC offers services to UK national before and after their visit to the USA. The travel staff offer information on Travel Warnings and Insurance, and Entry Requirements.

When it comes to the United States the information begins:
"You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the United States set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules. If you’re not sure how these requirements apply to you, contact the US Embassy or a consulate in the UK".
 
A French scientist who flew to a science conference in the U.S. was denied entry and deported back to France by Trump's Border Patrol just because they searched his phone and found messages that criticized Trump's spending cuts to scientific research per reports from the French newspaper Le Monde.

Seriously people. Entering the US is no longer safe for anyone.

But is only gets fucking worse. It isn't just me an my professional colleagues cancelling our attendance at conferences in the US this year or our personal holidays...
you would be fucking crazy to travel to the US now.

I'll never understand why the U.S. would lockup notable people while bragging about criminals learning a lesson. So much for having allies. (do we have any allies left?)

Extraordinary! Has searching phones become standard practice at international arrivals? Is one obliged to unlock one's phone for examination under threat of deportation?
 
Finland and Denmark have joined Great Britain and Germany in issuing travel warnings to the US.

At different times, the US border agents have gone on a kick to search phones and computers...like the first time Trump was in office and imposed the Muslim ban.

Sometimes it was on the pretext to make sure you weren't working in the US illegally or other shit like that.

But now it will go into overdrive.

Which is why conferences are being shifted away from the US or now, attendees from other countries being warned not to attend.

I wasn't aware that the UK government had issued warnings about travel to the USA. Advice certainly, but not warnings along the lines of "FCDO advises against all travel to Russia".
