From what I’ve seen of Putin’s supposed demands is the swapping of territory which the Ukraine will be heavily pressured to accept but the stumbling block may be Putin’s demand of a reduced Ukrainian military so Russia can come back at a future date for a second bite at the apple. Even for Trump who just wants the ‘win’ that might be a bridge too far. Giving up territory while shedding military power sounds moronic because it is.

Trump gave a press conference and casually mentioned that they had been solving wars all over the globe and the Ukrainian one was the last one they were still working on.

Sure.

Without the US the Ukraine cannot continue this war. Look at the recent arms the Ukraine just received from the Europeans from US stockpiles not from Europeans stockpiles. It’s sad to say but the Ukraine will accept what they must you can’t fight without weapons and logistics and while Europe has some of the former they have none of the latter and they don’t have the stomach to send actual troops into battle.
Ukraine’s best hope is that Putin continues to piss Trump off failing that it’s a dark road ahead for them.

Instead, Trump announced this afternoon that he intends to meet with Putin on August 15 in Alaska.

Putin generally cannot travel outside Russia because he has been indicted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, including the theft of Ukrainian children. And yet Trump is welcoming him to the United States of America.

Trump is on a distraction rampage, signing Royal Decrees Executive Orders threatening anyone who burns a flag and threatening Chris Christie for speaking truth to [diminished] power.

Because Lavrov has been giving interviews undoing all of Trump's false claims about the Alaska lovefest with Putin.

Meanwhile, Trump's kerfuffle with India seems to be driving Modi into Putin's arms. The media in India has been running Lavrov's interviews with headlines like "Lavrov schools the US media", with excerpts of the interview where Lavrov uses diplomatic double-speak that is the equivalent of saying there's not going to be any meeting with Ukraine until Russia approves the drapes and chairs in the meeting room. He disrespects Zelenskyy, saying that Russia doesn't consider Zelenskyy to be the leader of Ukraine. He pretty much takes the old USSR tone of provoking the US indirectly by implying that Russia is the ultimate arbitrar.

Did Trump respond to this slap in the face by imposing penalties against Russia? Nope, he's going after Chris Christie and ranting about bridges in Maryland.

One might be prompted to think that Russia has some dirt on Trump.

One of the pundits pointed out that Trump loves putting "boots on the ground" inside the United States but has never put boots on the ground in a foreign country.

He's viewed as more of a pussy when it comes to foreign entanglements than Obama was.

As long as Putin and others believe that Trump would never send in the troops or use the military against anyone (other than Americans), his threats are empty and toothless.

Of course we know it is all hot air out of Trump's mouth hole. All vague threats about something something going to happen if Putin doesn't come to the table and then the deadline passes again.

I would note however that about a week ago the Trump regime mumbled something about not trying any more and lust letting rrrZZia and Ukraine keep fighting it out, so I suppose this deadline will pass unremarked and ignored.
