So I am in medical school and I have become aware of all the shit that makes us so ill. Now I understand why I was always feeling like shit, with brutal headaches, boils on my skin and feeling exhausted every day - even though I am in my early twenties. From the preservatives that cause headaches, to the aritificial flavors that cause liver exhaustion and bad skin - because since they are toxic chemicals, the body tries to get rid of them ASAP by literally expelling them through your pores -, to the artificial colors that cause cancer and brain damage, to the transaturated fats that cause inflammation, accelerated ageing via increased oxidative stress and brain damage, everything in the diet conspires to fuck you.

So I decided to turn my diet 100%. A healthy diet would be one that is completely devoid of these artificial colors, preservatives and artificial flavors as well as refined flour and sugar, and includes fruits and vegetables, but still containes not so healthy things like meat, grains, cheese, etc. I decided to take it to a whole new level by eating primarilly only fruits and vegetables cultivated organically, with ocasional inclusion of egg whites with a couple yolks from organic, grass fed chicken and sprouts for protein. I did not include seeds in my diet for protein because the polynsaturated fats it contains cause inflammation and accelerated ageing due to increased oxidative stress and they are not healthy like most people think although not as bad as transaturated fats. As for essential fatty acids, the body can make whhat it needs from oleic acid, so a few spoons of organic olive oil on your salad a few times a month fullfils all the needs you have. I also excluded all chemicals from my life, from the shampoo that contains mineral oil(petrol) that penetrates the skin and causes cancer, liver and brain damage, to the cleaning house products that contain substances that cause cancer and headaches for the same reasons that artificial flavors do. All my hygiene products are made from natural organic coconut waxes with no added chemicals. Of course, I don't have the money to pay for this expensive organic lifestyle given that I am a college kid with a shitty job, so I asked mommy and daddy for the money for it and they gave it to me.

Guys, I have never felt better in my life. My skin glows and smells sweet. My hair is now silky and glows as well. Even my eyes are lighter in color then they used to be having an almost yellow color to themm. I have such enormous energy and I only need to sleep 5 hours or so a night. I wake up in the morning and go running 5 miles just because I have so much energy. The other day a couple stopped me on the street and shook my hands saying that they have never seen anyone look as good as me. The only negative is that now I look too young. I have always had a face that looks younger than my age, but now I look 16. I don't want to look so young. The only bad habit I haven't quit is the caffeine. I still drink organic coffee even though I don't need it since my energy is so great. But bad habits are very hard to quit. I will do it, though. I will never go back to my old life. I highly recommend doing what I am doing. You guys will not regret it.

How long have you been on this diet?

With all the modifications I've made, about a month. But I cut all the junk about 3 months ago. I still kept eating meat, grains, cheese and other not-so-bad-but-not-good things. I cut it all out a month ago. The first phase was like moving from hell to Earth, and the second one was like moving from Earth to Heaven. Lololololo.

Nice going. You can quit caffeine painlessly if you want to. I broke a 25+ year coffee habit by using a pill splitter and caffeine pills, a process which took about 2 months of gradual reductions. It feels fantastic to get up and go in the morning without coffee not to mention the peak and valleys I don't have to deal with anymore. It's been over a year and I don't miss it one bit.

It sounds like you want perfection which in my experience is never sustainable and was never really real to begin with. Do you have to live completely chemical free, and do you believe that you actually are right now? Did you know water is a chemical? And do you know for sure that your shampoo is better than what you were using before? Do you know for sure that petrolatum (mineral oil) can penetrate the skin and do the things you say it does? And as someone in medical school, don't you think you'll run into conflicts when you have to scrub your hands with a high percentage tricoslan soap before surgeries? When you have to prescribe synthetic drugs which will likely contain petroleum derived ingredients?

To me your diet sounds more like a psychological race, an escape from something. You are obsessive and you have created a perfect world for yourself. Your newfound euphoria is from that feeling of control, mastery, and you possibly do feel differently because of your drastically different diet—I am sure that could cause psychological changes. I have OCD, so I know exactly how this pattern works. You do something good, and you go all the way, and it has to be a certain way, but there are always traps. Always reasons it can't be perfect the way you wanted and the perfect world you create for yourself falls apart and you're terrified and don't know why, and it's because you're seeing the world around you that you were trying to avoid and didn't even know that you were.

Given that I know how you feel, and if I am right, I don't think I will change your mind. But it helps to become aware of what's happening even if you can't change it.

Firstly congrats on entering med school.
One of the posts before mine really said much of what i was going to cover(the guy with ocd) he made a lot of sense, for instance what if your treatment of a patient tottaly contradicts your own strongly held believes?
I suppose that one solution is do a couple more years study and become a homeopathic doctor, but this really cuts back on what you may want to specialise
in once you have that degree in your sweaty hands, another really plausible explanation is that i read that you have been on this uber-strict diet only a couple of months and you could be having a naturaley inflicted sense of euphoria as all the synthetic toxins are cleansed from your body either way congrats for the will power that this must have taken you,if it was me i would give it a few more months and then see how i feel.
Either way your determination is quite inspiring good luck on both med school and
your new diet.:=D::=D::=D::=D:

I suspect this is as much the case as anything. the mineral oil thing is just silliness, for instance.

But I'm not knocking the elimination of preservatives, msg, HFCS and additives.

We grow our own organic vegetables in the summer and make all our own soups, stews etc.

But I still live in a world that is choking on petroleum products. I can't avoid toxins entirely.

My advice? Adapt or die.

Of course, I don't have the money to pay for this expensive organic lifestyle given that I am a college kid with a shitty job, so I asked mommy and daddy for the money for it and they gave it to me.

This, of course may me laugh derisively. If someone isn't smart enough to be able to live organically on the same budget as consuming processed crap, I'm not sure they should breed. We actually spend less money eating well and using natural cleaning and personal care products than the cheap industrial crap.

Congratulations on your new lifestyle. I hope you can stick with it.

Also, I would suggest adding Chia seeds to your diet. They are a super-food with lots of omega3 and 6 plus other nutrients.

Dduder, I couldn't agree more. When I was going to the gym and ate moderately, I actually felt good with myself and seemed to have all the energy to spend doing physical exercise. I've even lost my big tommy. But after I moved to a different residence, I stopped going to the gym and started to expand in my midsection again. No worries - this time I know I can lose this again once I start doing physical exercise. As to the food, I'm trying to eat healthy - lots of fish, fruits, greens, and a glass of red wine every day. I still have to get rid off some some bad eating habits - strong coffees, sweets, and chips - but I'm getting there.

Sounds intense! Sounds euphoric, and extraordinary. Sounds difficult to continue to operate socially with any great success in the restaurants and cafes with potential lovers and other friends and colleagues. Sounds like an unnecessary source of stress and anxiety, worrying about pollution to such a degree.

You sound as though this plan is revoltionary for you. You soooouuund like a born-again...;) Have fun! And get some sleep. Sleep is important for all young men - even the healthy ones!

Whilst I don't dispute how different Dduder feels on his new diet, it is quite possible to replicate the effects - without the expensive extremes of organic food and non-chemical products.

Having just been diagnosed with diabetes, I've had to drastically alter my diet (it wasn't an unhealthy diet before).

I'm now on a low-carb diet, I have only berry fruits, and whatever vegetables I want, I already avoided artificial colourings, flavourings and preservatives anyway, and I've cut out refined sugars and flour. I'm eating a lot of protein rich food as I lost nearly 2 stone in muscle mass and body fat at the onset and I need to get that mass back. I exercise for just 30mins a day. I still drink coffee, tea and the ocassional diet coke etc, and the doctor has specifically advised me NOT to stop smoking yet (apparently the stress could mess up my levels, and he wants them controlled first).

Basically, I'm on a decent balanced diet (albeit slightly tweaked for my circumstances) which is what everyone should be on.

I guarantee that anyone who makes simple adjustments to their unhealthy diets will feel the benefit within a month.

i AGREE, It could be the "Placebo Effect" that you think it's working. So it feels like it is.

BUT.. we should all strive to eat healthier, take care of our bodies. All of that we already know. But.. I can understand both sides of the situation.

The only thing I will have to say, the best way to get the most organic experience out of life. Is to live somewhere rural, with a farm. (And grow your own vegetables and fruit)
** The most Important Thing ** is to keep going at it. Not to just quit after a few months.

I am a big vitamin freak. I take all of this type of stuff. So the OP. Caught my attention. lol

I changed my diet to an "organic" one a few years ago. A little background:

I was always a sickly child. I caught the flu like clockwork every year, had skin problems, etc. Fevers, headaches and so on.

In the 80's I hit 20 and got my first REAL job. I ate well, or so I thought. Migraines and stomach problems as well as allergies persisted. Doctors tried any number of things. In the end I was sick so much I was desperate for something to keep me going. Still, I ate fruits, vegetables, salads, etc. I still thought I ate well, not too much red meat, no soda and so on. By 29 I had to quit a great job because I couldn't function properly and missed too much work.

In my 30's and working for myself so I could live with my problems, things just got worse. I now had acid reflux disease as well and was living on prilosec. My joints were going and I thought at 36 that I have arthritis. I got worse and worse, and no one could figure out why. I didn't eat junk or fast foods at all. ZERO sodas or energy drinks.

As I hit 40 and wanted to put a bullet through my brain every morning as I crawled (often literally) out of bed at 11 am I was now up to 9 - 12 different meds. I also aged a LOT. I was SHOT.

At 41 I saw something on TV that talked about causes for Acid reflux and natural remedies for it. I tried it on a whim and sure as shit... it worked. One pill down. 2 weeks into this, the headaches got better as well. We decided to look deeper into all this and switched to organic, cosher and generally as much chemical free foods as absolutely possible. It became a lifestyle.

Fast forward to now 46. I am TOTALLY healthy. I have energy, regained a lot in years, my skin is for the first time EVER clear. My joints are great, my body is great, I lost weight, I feel like a kid! Didn't do much for male pattern baldness, but who cares! I am completely free of pain or discomfort. I am in better health NOW than I ever was.

Pity I didn't know this in my 20's...... I missed out on a lot of living because of this crap. But alas.....

So yes, I am a big advocate to ditching processed ANYTHING. I may be an extreme example of not tolerating chemicals. Some people are like roaches, they abuse the shit out of their bodies and are just fine. Not me. But I had to learn this on my own, and sadly kind of late in life. Doctors were NO help at all, except giving me more pills.

Don't underestimate what all the crap in out food actually does to your body. If you are eating garbage and are feeling great, congratulations! You are LUCKY to be so robust. But it'll probably catch up with you much later. Enjoy what you have NOW.

I get to enjoy what "I" have NOW. At 46 I am like a teen again. Well, almost. I don't party till 4 am. :D

But it's ALL BECAUSE OF FOOD.

I usually disagree with loki, but on this I think we are of like mind.

Incidentally, anyone ever notice how the rats and roaches don't seem to have any problems with all the preservatives and chemicals in our food? They seem to be thriving.

So you're saying there's no problem?

look at the fat, sick grotesque Americans. Sadly we're seeing this in Australia.

I take it, then, that you will not be eating in the hospital cafeteria, or sending out for fast food when you are on-call (and stuck in the hospital for 24 hrs), or eating from the vending machines, or eating the meals provided by the drug companies, or accepting the patient trays that the VA hospitals provide to students.

Eat like a caveman. Seriously. Fruits, vegies, etc. like they used to eat are actually quite healthy.
