CREEPY.

Okay, so I have a student loan with AES.

I went online tonight to check on the status of the loan.

I see the words "PAID IN FULL"

And apparently I owe nothing.

0.00 is due.

HUH?!

I've been late on payments for about 2 months ($600 payments per month ugh....) and I had one of them go into deferment since I'm in grad school.

But now it says the other was paid in full.

Is it a computer glitch?

Did something far worse happen?

Or did some guardian angel come down from heaven to pay off my student loan with a Christ Credit Card....?

As optimistic of a person as I am, I'm guessing it's an error. What course of action you take to rectify this, if any , is completely up to you.

Yes, it must be a computer error.

It's nice to look at though.

I've been staring at it for the last twenty minutes.

It's beautiful to see the words: "Paid in Full"

I'm annoyed that your first reaction to something that could be a gift is "CREEPY".

It IS creepy.

Someone out there just went and paid a very large debt without me knowing.

It's like someone coming into your house and leaving a giant briefcase full of cash on your bed while you're sleeping.

Your initial reaction is WTF?!, followed by MONEYYYY!, followed by Wait...who the fuck was in my house?!

God knows I qualified for Aid and took that money to buy clothes and shit. I have no idea how I qualified (Well Im just good like that) my father has been saving for my college fund since the dark ages and my scholarships.

All I know is I put a down payment on a car got some D&G kicks and bought some louie bags for school

Soooo, if anyone here wants to pay all that off. You are very welcome to.

I don't know, but I know AES in my state is associated with a state grant system called PHEEA. I know they have a few loan "forgiveness" plans depending on your major, military service, employer after school, etc. You have to apply for them, but that's the first thing I thought of. I know I've had loans "forgived."

I don't find that creepy at all.

Of course that is the type of thing I have done and will do again.

Is it really a bad thing?

Um, is that bad or something?

it's not bad per say. unless they sold it to company to deal with you because you've been late; then you might be stuck with higher fees or something. however, in and of it's self banks sell loans to other banks all the time. you still owe the money it's just now you will make payments to another bank. you should be contacted soon on how to make your new payments.

^Ummmm, no.

And the other poster's are right, loans get sold/bought all the time. If you know the loan still had a balance, you can bet that someone is going to come looking for it. Expect something within the next two weeks, a bill and a privacy of information notice from your new loan holder.

For realz?

Fair is fair. If you owe? Pay.

And weak collection methods? No. Fucking up a man's credit history is not weak. Imagine paying out thousands in interest because your credit's wrecked from that one lil student loan back in the day.

But it would be a nice dream. To be able to print that screen and use it as proof that the loan has been satisfied.... ahhhhhhhhhhhh, nice dreams. :p

Well, who ever is responsible, if could pass along my information to them, perhaps they'd be generous enough to help another student...

Either your loan is passed on to another company, or someone accidentally paid it? I doubt its the latter. Call them up.

Sorry to put a damp on the celebration.

I wonder if it is like getting $200K instead of $20 out of the ATM machine. They'll want it back.

They have recently been selling loans to the Federal Government, so I doubt it that someone paid off your loan, I mean unless you're a fat cat like Goldman or Maddof or some other thug, no one will relieve you like that.

Change your name, grow a beard and move house.

Alternativey you could phone them up to "check whether that final payment your uncle promised for Christmas has been received"
