Hi. I have notice a change in bowel habit for a long time. And I notice that I can't seem to clear my bowel fully.

Meaning, I feel like there are some stool left behind in my bowel.

Recently after I clear my bowel, I still feel like there are stool left behind. But I can't seem to pass them out.

I sit on the toilet bowl, and strain and try to force the remaining stool to be excrete out. It took about 25-30 minutes, but the stool came out soft and mushy. But after that, I still feel like there are stool left in my bowel/rectum.

Recently, after I poo, I notice some, little bit of red in my stool. I'm not sure if it's blood or the food that I ate.

I'm scared and worried that I may have colon cancer or anus cancer.

If I can't pass out my stool completedly from my bowel, does that mean I have colon cancer?

I'm very scared and worried. Need advices on this.

You really need to see a doctor. We can't help you with this. I understand you are scared and worried but please summon up the courage and go to the doctor.

In the meantime, buy an enema bulb and squirt a little water in. The muscles in the area can become weak and fail to do their job.

You should see a doctor. I don't know how old you are but my doctor started giving me colonoscopies when I turned 50 and because I had polyps. I get one every two years. None have been cancerous but the cancer is an easy to beat with early detection so it is a good idea to check with your doctor...

The blood in the stool can be anything...don't assume the worst. Take a deep breath and go to the doctor so your mind can rest.

I'm 34.

I suffer from polyps too. I had a few colonscopies done before. But they turn out okay.

But I'm scared of going for colonscopy again. It's not the procedure that scares me. It's the preparation itself.

I have to drink this disgusting bowel preparation fluid that makes me want to vomit.

The last time I was scheduled for a colonscopy a few years ago, I was not able to finish the 4 packets of Fortrans powder. Halfway through, I vomited. As a result, the doctors was unable to perform the colonscopy on me.

I'm worried that it will happen again if I see a doctor and he arranged for me to do a colonscopy.

^^^Maybe try some anti nausea pills?

I know how nasty the stuff is though..I agree with you. It is the worst part of the procedure. I have never finished the whole bottle (choking thinking about it)...I wait to see if I am pooping clear water and when I see that...I know I am done...

The thing is...it is a nasty part of a very important procedure so you gotta find a way through it...the rewards are worth it....

Can I add sugar/honey to make the stuff more drinkable for me? I heard that it is better to drink from a straw?

I heard that cold water helps?

Or can I mix the powder with soft drink instead of water?

The stuff taste like "fish tank water" to me. And I have to drink 4 packets of the powder. Each packet mix into 1 litre of water.

How do you cope with it?

I wish that I can have my polyps removed. Otherwise, I need to return back to the hospital every two years for a colonoscopy.

Why don't you have your polyps removed? Then you don't ever have to do colonoscopy ever again and drink that horrible stuff for the rest of your life.

Your current problem is with the muscles near the anus opening. Polyps develop higher up in the intestines. The doctor will not suggest a colonoscopy for this problem. He might look with a sigmoidoscopy, a short scope done without the need for the laxative or anesthesia. I doubt if he will do even that under these circumstances. Since you have not had a recent colonoscopy he may recommend one but probably not for this problem.
The blood probably resulted from your straining. Again, get an enema bulb to solve the immediate problem.

Can I use a shower head?

After I poo, I always use a shower head ;use the water to wash and clean my anus. I hardly use toilet paper.

Is the enema bulb works the same way as a shower head?

Easy Solution...

More fiber in your diet...

There is a product out there called "Herbal Fiber Blend" that is like a miracle cure...

Others are available as well...

No, the enema tube in inserted and inch or so and the water squirted in. It will then lubricate and cause the material to come out. Buy a one time enema in the laxative department in the drug store and reuse it, but buying a bulb is better. Many gays use the bulbs to clean out before anal sex so this is not something unusual.
Fiber will not solve the problem of getting the last bit out.

Most of what you are describing can be resolved by drinking more fluids, eating more vegetables and grains in your diet. There's no need to do any other interventions.

I think Kara has given you the definitive answer for your problem at hand ....

...but assuming you will have another colonoscopy again....I would not mix sugar or honey or use a soft drink BUT I do use cold water and I also plug my nose when I am drinking it so it minimizes the taste...you can ever chase it with another bit of cold water without the stuff in it while keeping your nose plugged so it lessons the taste even more...

You can mix it with 7UP, Sprite, Ginger Ale, etc., as long as the drink is 'clear'. Do not mix it with anything that has strong color.

During a colonoscopy they need to be able to see everything, and any possible colored fluid in the bowel would block that ability. You don't want them missing anything.

Still ... It's best to ask your doctor these questions.

Kyanimal may be right...makes sense..I am not sure... but for me...I follow the directions as much as possible in order to get the best results. I figure if I have to go through all of that I better do what they say even if it sucks....

I am curious...did they leave the polyps in place when you had yours? I ask because for me..they took them all out every time and none were cancerous....but they removed them all.

The colonoscopy itself is painless...the damn barium enema though..yikes! I would do it again to save my life but I HATED IT!...and you have to drink the crap for that too...and it all comes out of your ass after they blow you up....humiliating...

I do eat a lot of vegetables. Although I drink very little water each day cause I have weak bladder?

If I drink a lot of water, I need to keep going to the toilet to pee non-stop.

Thanks for explaining. My concern is that enema bulb is used mainly by gay people to prepare for anal sex.

If I tell the doctor/pharmacist that I want to get an enema bulb, they might be in for a rude shock and stare at me strangely.
