Well basically I hate living in the UK, and want to go to university in the states. I dont plan on going for about 2-3 years but I think moving country to go to uni is a big deal and I need to start planning asap.

So whats the average cost for a good uni, I dont mean harvert or yale im not that smart so I can forget that. Also which cities are the best to go to, for clubbing (not nessesarily gay clubs, cause its not really my scene) cheap student accomidation etc. I need as much info as use can give me! And besides American men are hotter than british men, no offence to the brits on here lol.

You can forget about getting into Harvard if you can't even spell it right. I think you should forget about university until you can at least spell and use proper punctuation, sentences, and capitalization.

The average out-of-state annual cost for a public university is $24,700 according to Sallie Mae.

For private universities, it's $31,000. Realistically, it's not unheard of for schools to have all costs running upwards of $50,000 per year.

Have you thought about Canada?

Oh, and assuming you're not a US citizen or permanent resident, you're not eligible for grants or aid from the US government, which is how most students manage to pay for college.

You also have to take into account the cost of traveling home and the hassle of getting a visa.

Jay -- What are you STUDYING???

That is PROBABLY the MOST important aspect when choosing a school over here to go to...

As they ALL have their individual strengths and weaknesses...

For example -- IF you're studying Economics (like I did for my undergrad) -- you might consider Princeton or Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business...

Other areas of study -- would point towards other schools...

I would DEFINITELY consider that over what towns are the best to go clubbing in...

Just a suggestion...

:):):)

Oh -- and as an American -- I would have been HONORED to have studied at the University of London or Manchester...

RIGHT THERE in your back yard...

:):):)

Yeah but, I have lived here all my life its boring plus the weather is shit.

And I want to study Architecture!

Studyin in the US is SOOOOO EXPENSIVE !!!! (yeah International student here !!)

But u can still look for partnerships with ur school or university in the UK, the problly have a program where u can spend 1 or 2 years in the US

But im telling u it gest expensive, so if it's JUST to go the US u might go there as a tourist or with a job !!
unless of course u have unlimited amount of money LOOOL OR a very solid project

but there's a lof of costs
- Visa
- Airplane ticket
- Insurance
- Living there (rent, campus...)
- Going out and enjoying ur time there
- Paying the univ fee

But it's just my opinions and experience... lol
I dont see the cultural shock as the most important thing to worry bout for now

Ok thanks for the help so far, I thought Americans where just like us brits take the piss, sarcastic guess not. Well I just wanted a few breif ideas, will have to go and talk to someone about it!

Ok lol, Im a likeable person anyway so I hope people wont despise me just because I am from the UK, I assumed all Americans where freindly though. (however over the top) Well thanks for the advice!

I adore America. However, I'm not sure going to university there would be as good. A lot of English universities have better reputations I've found, and if you do your degree here you can then get away to America having qualifications - which makes it easier to get in, having already got qualifications.

I should point out that loads of universities do years away in other countries. I'd have given just about anything to have done that, and now its too late. Pick your university very wisely.

I take it you're not planning to read English.

I don't know how you're fixed financially, but I suspect you'll find that without some sort of scholarship, American universities will be too expensive for you. There are some very good universities in the UK and also some pretty rotten ones. Indeed there are good, bad and mediocre universities in your home city of Birmingham. You might do better to study at home and leave the country when you're more marketable.

If you're serious about a degree, you really ought to be thinking about your subject and identifying those universities which teach courses which best address your needs and ambitions. If you choose somewhere simply on the strength of the local night life, you run the risk of ending up with a Mickey Mouse degree and three wasted years.

Tuition cost will depend on the number of credits you take per term AND your course of study. Generally, arts and sciences cost less than business and business costs less than course studies in pre-law or pre-med. So, there are great variables. Always count on is costing more than their brochures' claim.

We have a son in college and this year's cost was close to 40 grand....and he lives at home. He also takes a pretty heavy credit load and he enjoys taking classes that do no pertain to his major, such as in the arts.

Please, for your sake, don't use university as a way to travel, especially the US. Others have said that US universities are expensive, and I totally agree. If you're interested in starting a new life, living in a new place, and expanding your horizons, that's great. But please don't make the mistake of continuing onto university just because it's the "normal" thing to do. Most people I know will spend over 10 years paying back loans, and that equates to coming out of uni, and NEEDING that amazing job that you should be able to earn with your spectacular education. Personally, I would not recommend getting into this situation unless you are at least pretty sure about your interest in architecture, or you have a lot of spare cash.

If you are more interested in a change of scenery, finding a job might be more suitable. I don't know the full logistics of doing this as a foreigner though. You can always go to university when you're sure about it, but you can't go back on paying student loans once you've graduated.

Well, the University of Wisconsin, the NUMBER 1 PARTY SCHOOL IN THE US, their tuition and fees for 09-10 are estimated to be about $22,270 for non Wisconsin residents

Annual Costs:

Tuition & Learning Materials: Approx $30,000
Housing: Approx $12,000
Mandatory Health Insurance Required For A Visa: Approx $1,500
Food/Ent: Approx $5,000
Transportation (depending on location, may need a car):Approx: $4,000
2 visits back to UK per year: Approx: $2,500
Student Visa Costs: Approx: $1,000

I am sure I have left out a few other misc. costs but you could be looking at an annual bill of approx $55,000.

Since your family has been paying into the tax system in the UK you have the whole of Europe to go to and join a university at a greatly reduced rate. If you come here to study you will be at the top tier of the tuition schedule, is it really worth it because you are bored in the UK.

As others have said, buckle down, get a quality education in a quality school and aspire to be an expert in your field, at that point US companies will pay YOU to come here and work for them on their dime.

UK and American education systems are quite different and its possible you would be required to repeat many courses and pay for them that you have already studied and passed as a part of your A Levels.

If he can pay he can go... if he paid enough even Harvard might welcome him.
Now succeeding in his studies would be a different matter...
