Here goes:

A few months ago, I played a bit with a friend. "A bit" being the operative words - unprotected oral, no orgasm. Fast-forward three months to a message from my friend, saying he tested positive for chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis.

I don't really know how big the chance is I've caught something from him, so I'm a little unsure about what to do now. Get tested, obviously. But should I also avoid sex until I do test negative, or would that be a total overreaction to something relatively minor?

You'll probably have gathered that I've yet to deal with STIs in my life. So... any advice/insights?

I'm no expert, but I would probably not have sexual activities until you get your results back.

I could be wrong though.

Either way, sorry to hear that, treanir. You can be glad that he told you though.

Wait until you get the results to have sex and don't suck your skanky friend's cock again.

Sounds to me that you have already figured this situation out.

Get tested and no sex until you get your results back. Oh, add remain calm to the list.

Thanks guys. :) I think I was just looking for some reinforcement. Guess it's the nunnery for me! (until after the test results come back, that is ;))

Your friend has been busy.

The good news is that the test results come back pretty quickly, so the sooner you go get tested, the sooner who can get back to business.

how can you get all three at once  iirc all of them show symptoms, right?

^ and you are?

and I was thinking of the chance that all three at once are asymptomatic.

apart from that YOUR (oh .. ooops) old post refers to visible signs "on their dick" as seen from 3rd person. I was speaking about the infected person who sees a) more than their dick b) also the temporary symptoms that only last for some time and then disappear. and those are pretty common for gonorrhoea and syphillis. probably less for chlamydia

quite the contrary .. please show me some source/data on the 50% chance of a syphillis infection without *any* symptoms.

if people *think* they are better because the symptoms disappear, it's once again about stupid people .. which is a bit different then "no symptoms". obviously "stupid people" was what i was going at initially.

scorn? I was merely asking for it, because as you see from what I linked in general it is nowhere described that way. And still I am not sure what to make of this, because the quotes that you delivered only speak of men that were asymptomatic .. which probably means at the time of that survey / detection. Not that they never had any symptoms.
Yet again it seems you're merely here to grind an axe. For reasons not known to me, but I don't really care either. If you want to feel "better than someone" .. go ahead, the internet is big.

No, go and get tested and no sex until results. It would be a totally reasonable reaction to something relatively minor.

If I got news like that I would be very impatient for the results no matter what the risk. And I could never have sex with someone if I had even a small concern about having to call him in 3 months and say "Guess what, you should get tested. For chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis..... I know! I couldn't believe it either!" I mean it's just awkward...

And one more thing, not to sew doubts about your friend - he was responsible enough to give you the message which is a promising sign, but this was obviously difficult news for him to tell you and for your own safety you should not assume he told you all the details that are important for you to know. Also for him to have multiple infections like that may be a sign to be concerned about his immune system? I don't know that, it could just be bad luck.

I assume your doctors will test for everything including things he did not mention, and that would be wise.

You are in an excellent position to ensure your own health, but also the health of all the other sexy gay men out there who might want to spend an evening with you, by just waiting until after the tests. I don't know if you have had other experiences since that time, but you may wish to tell them too.

Most people would probably say "No point in doing that before I find out the results" but my theory is once you have someone's penis in your mouth, you don't really need to keep secrets from each other any more.

Up just to let everyone know my test results came back, and everything's fine. :)
