Unusual Thanksgivings...

• Then, of course, there all the years I've been totally alone... 8 out of 10 of the last years, including this year. (Why yes, I am as unlikable in real life as I am on this forum! So no one wants to have me over! )

Maybe you just think you are unlikeable or haven't found the right friend!

There were all the years we didn't have a stove to cook on one year we borrowed my homophobic uncles microwave and had Turkey oncorr frozen tv dinner and stuffing I made in an electric skillet with white bread and chicken bouillon cubes it actually was good!
There was the time my loaded uncle decided we were talking about him and lashed out at everyone including his kid and wife! After that we stopped going to family get togethers because they were getting too toxic!
There was 2020 when we all had the Rona!
Last year I had a broken foot!
And this year had a cold/allergies thing happening so it wasn't great, wasn't awful but nothing to write novels about!

Worked a double shift on Thanksgiving, was on duty with 8 others, we ordered pizza for dinner but by the time we got to eat it, it was stone cold. It still tasted good though.

Nope we didn't have one, long story! Thats nothing maybe some time I'll tell you how long I slept on a couch or in my living room sometime!

So is it somehow more compulsory to somehow celebrate Thanksgiving in the USA than to celebrate Christmas?

I would say it is normal to celebrate both. For Thanksgiving it was usually more of the extended family (with Grandparents mostly). Then for our family, Christmas Eve with extended family and Christmas usually just immediate family). We never really did anything for the New Year Eve / Day holiday other than stay up late.

All that was when I was growing up and a young adult.
