Well - it's coming down to the wire...
...so who is going to win?

I am kind of hoping for Murray in the Men's - and anyone but Serena in the women's - but who knows?

A tennis aficionado friend has been predicting a Murray v Del Potro final since the tournament started - and, thus far, he still looks to be on the mark. I wasn't expecting Berdych to beat Federer - but it happened. Tipsarevich is always a threat - he can beat anyone but has never managed to be sufficiently consistent - but he has what I think is his highest ranking now, so must be doing something right. I suspect Djokovic may be carrying some sort of injury - he has certainly lost his recent dominance...but I have to admit I really am not a fan of his these days - just don't like "the attitude".

One can never discount Serena - but I must admit that I think whoever wins out of Azarenka/Sharapova ought to be the favourite.

So - what does everyone else think?

I'm rooting for Andy Murray myself

Quite literally, Serena Williams is really serving these girls this year. I hope she wins the U.S. Open again. I doubt that there'll be many more opportunities for her; soon enough, the competition and the effects of aging will catch up to her. So, I hope she wins as many Slams--and other tournaments--as she can while she can.

As for the men: I can't not consider Mr. Djokovic to be the favorite, although I guess I won't be surprised if Murray repeats as champion. Secretly, I'm hoping that Nadal wins the title, though (not so secretly now, I guess). I like that guy and his scrappy style of play.

"Not yet," said Serena to Sloane! I've got my fingers crossed for Miss Williams. I hope old gal can get to the final round and get this done.

Meanwhile, Berdych has quietly been playing eerily well. Good for him!

Federer, however, has been dismissed. In ten meetings prior to today, Robredo had won only three sets from Federer; yet Tommy beat Roger in three sets, today. Wow.

My guy Nadal is struggling against Kohlschreiber. Seriously, though, he's returning serve from the fucking front row! Why's he playing that far back? Yo Rafa, this ain't clay dude! Oh well.

Hehe - I was wondering if I should start a thread for 2013 - but the 2012 one didn't exactly get many responses.

I have to say it is nice to see Lleyton, now very much a veteran, getting thru to the last 16. He might beat Youzhny (if he recovers OK) but he won't beat Djokovic. looks like Andy or Nole in the top half, tho' Stan and Tomas could both be capable of an upset. Probably ought to be Rafa in the bottom half...likely he'll play Ferrer, who he really should beat.

As for the Women - well, for me, anyone but Serena. Ever since that screaming death threat tantrum against a line judge I can't stand her. She is a bad sport and downright nasty - she completely lost me with that behaviour and I used to quite like her fighting spirit up till then. Barring accident/injury it will most likely be Victoria v Serena - no guesses who I'll be favouring ;).

Lleyton hung in there, but he just couldn't hold on at the end. I'm surprised by his effort at the U.S. Open this year, but I'm glad to see his exit. I haven't liked him since the infamous James-Blake-Incident @ the U.S. Open in 2001.

All of Djokovic's matches this year have been practice sessions for him. 6-3, 6-0, 6-0? In the fourth round of a Slam? C'mon!

Serena? See Djokovic. I mean, 6-0, 6-0? Sheesh.

I think the matches should be tougher for everybody for the rest of the tournament now.

I'm on record as having chosen Serena to win in two sets and Novak to win in four sets at the U.S. Open this year. Serena is my sentimental favorite, Novak is not. Let's see if I'm right.

Serena should've won in two but she choked. Looks like both of your favs won though!

Tell me about, man! I was stoked! I was @ work when Rafa and Nole were playing, so I could only follow the match on my phone; I watched it later. That was quite the match!

I watched Serena/Victoria live. That was a crazy match. For a minute there, I thought Serena would lose.
