Is there such thing?
How strong that idea embedded in your mind?

I was born in a background that my native country never fully accept me and my family. That's why "us vs. them" is very strong in psyche and I believe that thing (the opposition) is exist universally.

How's yours?

Here in Edinburgh the "Us vs Them" mentality only seems to revolve around Hib's and Heart's supporters. Football/Soccer.

Well there's always the sectarian devide as well- i mean thats the origin of the Hib's hearts hatred.

As it appears to be, so it becomes, when ones perception interprets what it wants to understand.

Ingrained prejudice is a social construct that influences the way one perceives ones daily interactions with other people.

Wiser men than I have observed that when one changes the way one perceives the stimuli that enter our daily life, the focus of ones attention changes the way one interprets ones experiences with the rest of humankind.

So often that which one understands to be the truth, is nothing more than ones interpretation, influenced by ones life's experiences.

It is often said that many people are unable to see beyond the end of their nose, limited by their failure to liberate their field of vision from incarceration in a cell of their own construction commonly called...prejudice.

“The eye sees only what the mind is prepared to comprehend.”~Robertson Davies

American republican politics is totally an Us versus Them thing.

And, of course, there are all the people who want to make immigration an Us versus Them thing.

Or those who want to make religion an Us versus Them thing.

I did not know Belgium was a union of two major ethnic groups until the Walloons floated the idea of independence from the Flanders.
The "Us vs Them" psychology can re-emerge at anytime.

In Michigan I see a lot of labor vs. management. Right now though it's government vs. the people. The Flint water fiasco speaks loudly of that as well as what's going on in Detroit with the teachers and them being denied their pay by a school system that is under an emergency manager appointed by our governor.

And in your case, an almost constant Canada vs US mentality. You really need to get over it.

No. This is something in your own head.

I am one of the biggest cheerleaders for America.

I can't help it if you see every comment and criticism of the sterile and retrogressive conservative GOP party and policies as a direct attack on your soil.

You really need to get over it.

And in Glasgow it's the proddies and the catholics.

Actually, you aren't. You want to cheerlead for an America created in your image, a Bernie Sanders-style America. If you can't have that, you aren't interested in cheerleading for America. It's like those big mouths always threatening to leave the US if their candidate does not win. You notice they never leave? A loyal American is an American who remains loyal even when his candidate loses. In case you didn't know this, there are plenty of Americans, myself included, who feel we have no horse in this race this election year.

Besides, you'll just look nasty in those short skirts and pompoms.

And as some wag has just reminded me, we have the great cut versus uncut debate here every few months.

"team cut"

Oh we know it all right.

But go back to my post. One out of three points dealt with the clusterfuck republican US versus THEM mentality that has taken over the conservative political discourse thanks to the religious right and tactics going all the way back to Nixon's southern strategy.

That has nothing to do with Sanders.

The other two points are a world wide phenomenon right now.

You really have to get beyond thinking that everything is about the US. It is like you have a huge chip on your shoulder.
