USA intervening in another civil war , 100 combat-equipped U.S. forces to Uganda

Why are you whining about a hundred soldiers in Uganda?

The USA has soldiers in many countries where we don't need to be: Germany and South Korea to name a couple.

Is it because this is a black African country where this is suddenly becoming an issue?

UPDATE:

We have soldiers in Italy, Greece, Japan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Netherlands.... shall we start threads about those countries also?

We still have seven bases in Kuwait -- drop that to two.
The bases in Tokyo can go, too, along with the Army base in Okinawa. The Marines have TEN bases on Okinawa -- drop it to one.
There are two or three in Kosovo -- close them all.

This list may not even be complete, but it's revealing:

No one, including Obama, has answered the question in how this action is in our national interest or how we as a country are in harms way because of the Lord's Resistance Army.

What a naive concept. Has any one even asked? The precedent has been established. We no longer need a national interest for military or quasi-military action; we are the world cops with drones.

Gentlemen, an actual declaration of war is now an historical curiosity. Last sighting: 1941.

Kuli, You know not what you say.....

It is a damn good thing those actions will never be realized.

Certain places can easily see troop reductions. As you mentioned in Germany. I am sure the overseas basing will continue to consolidate and overall reduce the footprint but it will never go away in the manner you are suggesting.

I'm being very moderate here. I really think we should close all overseas bases except Navy ones, with attached Marine bases. It's ridiculous for us to have such a net draped over the world. It's especially ridiculous when we have allies relying on us instead of standing up for themselves.

For example, South Korea: they have both the technology and the economy to have their own military fully capable of dealing with anything the North might do.

Correct. why are we defending their soil with our troops and money? South Korea, Germany, Italy, Japan aren't the third world. They have the means to take care of themselves. Complaining about 100 troops being sent to a starving nation is ridiculous. The Army can do more than "kill people and break things"...... (omg, I quoted Limbaugh, where's the oxycodone?)
