I don't have a boy friend and Valentines day is on the horizon. I'm a smart guy, and know it is not all that important, but for some reason---I care!

You're not alone! (*8*)

I don't have a boyfriend right now either and this holiday just seems kind of like a slap in the face to remind me. :(

I'm very independent and don't live my life feeling sorry for myself, but I would like to share it with someone.

There are many of us in the same boat. Maybe we should make Valentine Boxes out of shoe boxes and cut a slot in the lid so we can all give each other home-made Valentine cards.

February 15th is my favorite holiday. All chocolate, half price! Look forward to that.

I'll just go up to my lonely room and pretend that special someone is holding me whilst i sleep, their warm breath slowly dissipating as the bauble securely places itself on the tip of his fanny.

i don't celebrate valentine's day.

it is a plot by the sith.

i am honor bound to war against it and them.

:square:

I've enjoyed ONE Valentine's Day with someone else. This one will be another day alone

I can pretty much ignore it even knowing I have nobody to share it with, but what really irks me are all the commercials telling us guys all the shit we need to buy "our women". Quit throwing it in my face already :grrr:!

Haha..this is going to be an interesting valentines day seeing as how I'm somewhat in a poly relationship and seeing that i work on sundays.

I might have to just go see them on sunday. Maybe I should make them both some chocolate. After I learn to make it that is T_T

Although they are trying to be good to their diet. I don't really wanna tempt them.

I don't think I've ever celebrated Valentines Day with anyone before. Oh well. I just hope it's enjoyable.

I made big plans for Valentine's Day. Instead of going out to eat, which we do almost every time we meet, I decided to cook. I'm no chef, so I actually practiced a recipe a few times to make sure it would come out good. I also bought a whole bunch of candles (enough to light up the dining room) and rose petals, Ha, I impressed myself. I usually forget about Valentine's Day (and birthdays and anniversaries etc etc.)

Too bad we broke up a few days ago!

Valentines' Day with multiple partners can be complicated, but it sounds like you and yours are all mature enough to handle it.

I have someone, but we'll be in different cities so we're celebrating sometime in early March. I think I'll go and see Friday the 13th on V-Day.

I'd like to care about Valentine's Day, but I don't have anybody except my right hand. I talk to the hand and it plays with me. It makes up for the lack of red roses, heart-shaped candy boxes and cards, but there is still an ache in my own heart.

Thanks sinfulsimon. I'm not sure if I should seek the wisdom of those with multiple partners. But you did give me that nice compliment and said I can probably figure it out. And I probably can.

Oh?

That's a great idea. If you can't make the actual date make it up at a later time.

Valentine's a week away???...that's short notice..I may have to "borrow" someone else's boyfriend---

again.

Well it seems I hit a nerve!

Love you gdude...but more than one guy on Valentine's day...hmmm seems like gluttony! LOL...

Seriously though, don't be sad. It's just another day. Put on a good movie, treat yourself to a nice dinner and some wine. Have a good cry. You'll be alright. lol

Interesting.... a good plan!

Yeah...The TV just reminds me every day of the Valentine's day I'm not having.TV must be stopped!

Me either...

but we'll survive. (*8*)

After you go so long allowing yourself to be upset by it--there comes a day when you really just don't care anymore.

*Searching calendar for day not to be upset* Actually you are right. When a special day upsets me (and I'm too old for all this drama anyway) I usually just wait till about 8 pm that evening and suddenly...peace! Maybe I should just ask someone on JUB to be my Valentine!

You're not alone! (*8*)

Agreed!

My two favorite Valentine's day plans!

Um...broke up...and you have all the food and candles and stuff....UM...

Hello Cardshark!

Yep Alley may have the best plan of all!!! LMAO:badgrin:

I struggle with this every year, my live-and-let-live ideals warring with my why-can't-you-assholes-shut-the-fuck-up-already personality.

The thing is, Valentine's Day is completely artificial. It was created as a way to sell stuff, one of the first really successful marketing ploys in modern history. Nobody ever really celebrated it, it was just another saint-day in a calendar crowded with saint-days, until some enterprising retailers got the idea of introducing it into Anglo-American society via department stores and gift-shops.

But what roasts my nuts is that this artificial holiday taps into one of our most basic instincts, the need to mate. Actually, it's not even just this holiday... the entire Hollywood/Mad-Ave matrix has discovered our ultimate weakness, the desire to mate, and it has manipulated that weakness to fuel a gazillion-dollar industry.

We live in a world in which movies and TV shows and books always end with happily-ever-after... meaning that everyone ends up with a mate (all the good people, anyway); but in that same world, the actual overwhelming majority of us are unmated or badly mated.

Essentially, our art does not imitate our lives, rather it (because it's driven by profit incentive) makes us dissatisfied with our lives.

And that just fucking pisses me off. I only hope that if I ever do have a boyfriend in my life, that I remain pissed off and don't get suckered into the matrix. Because that would mean all my righteous indignation was nothing but sour grapes.
