Hi.

I have been a Vegan now for several months, is there anyone else here that is Vegan/Vegetarian?

So far it has been somewhat difficult, not the desire for meat just the problem finding foods that are 100% free of any animal products. I have also lost a few pounds, can't beat that. I would love to chat with anyone that is Vegan or Vegan friendly.

I'm not vegan, but I respect the lifestyle. I'm getting back to doing vegetarian meals more often. It takes more planning in some cases, but it's more satisfactory in the long run.

I've always strive to have a vegetarian diet.In fact, I always go for it whenever possible.Sometimes for weeks. But when I feel too 'clean' / 'light', I start taking SOME meat.Or else, My protein would consist of tofu & eggs.I don't know why people feel its so hard to be vegetarians.(Those who would like to be but situations don't allow.)Its much much economical & healthy.Especially for students who are under budget.Maybe from my perspective(An Asian),its easy. But as a chef, I think American can easily adapt to Vegetarian diet easily as well. You got your Vegetable Sheperd's Pie(Onions, Mushrooms, Carrots, Tofu), Mushroom & Cheese Quiches, Mixed Veggie/Tofu Burger, Potato Cakes topped with Sour Cream & Chive, Vege Tocos, Pasta & Mixed VegetableTomato Sauce, Healthy Green Salad with Toasted Crunchy Walnuts mixed with Fried Cheese & Balsamic Olive Oil Vinagret, Mixed Fruit Compote & Fresh Cream with Toasted Nuts, Vegetable Lasagna(Tomato, Mozarella/Gruyere/Cheddar Cheese, Aubergine & Zuchini), etc. These are some delicious stuffs guys......... :p

I'm an lacto-ovo veggie.

But honestly,
not that big of deal.
However I'm getting worried that I'm going to have to stop eating seafood.

I had this dream last night where I was forced to watch some man toruture lobsters by ripping off their pincers and eyes...

Odd, huh? I was certianly freaked out and now the salmon sitting in my fridge is glaring at me......

Hey, I'm vegetarian. I have been for 11 years, since I was 16. I know, it's hard to find other gay Vegetarians. It's a problem for me, when someone I date eats meat...and they smell weird and taste funny. Hit me up sometime we'll talk about it.

I would never be vegan. It is very unhealthy. There are protiens that your body needs that are only found in animal products. I read somewhere that statistically vegans dont live as long as people who eat healthy diets consiting of meats, whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

I have some friends whoa re vegan and if i see them soon (they travel a lot now) I'll ask them what you can do. Best bet is to go to some Indian grocery stores (since several of their items are animal-free like jello made with some kind of vegetable starch) but mostly for other things, i think y9ou have to prepare them yourself and make a garden.

to be a strict vegan rules out beer/ale and coke (cola that is)

Most beer is vegan but not all (see this). Coke (at least sold in North America) is vegan because it doesn't contain refined sugar (which isn't necessarily non-vegan BTW).

Pop in Food Supplements.Especially B12.Get omega 3 from Flax Seed & Olive Oil. Take soy protein Isolate.Compelete protein.Add milk if you can to have a wider spectrum of amino acid. Its as easily as normal diet.Just different.

I've been a vegan for 5 years and I don't think I'll be going back anytime soon. It doesn't take that much longer to prepare a healthy meal and when you look at the long term benefits, how can you go wrong?

When you read what's on a typical grocery store label, it pretty much comes down to sugar, saturated fats, bleached flour, and salt. In many ways it isn't that much better than pet food :D

Do you realize how much propaganda is pumped out by the beef and dairy councils? It is unhealthy to be Vegan ONLY if you are not taking care your body by eating the correct foods. It is difficult to be a healthy Vegan, but it is not unhealthy to be Vegan at ALL when done correctly. Quite the reverse in fact.

nate,
Yup.I would agree on that point. Infact, based on the EXPERTS of the world, Vegetarians(Some Indians & Some Monks in certain places) are not necessarily the longest living human being on earth. In fact, The Mediteranians & The Japanese are among the longest living human on earth. Based on their diets, they contain high amount of Fruits & Veggies(FYI, Not only potatoes & bananas.), Wholegrains, Monosaturated fat, & Seafoods particularly Salmon/ Deep Sea Fish. They have much much wide varieties of nutrients. But I personally think vegetarians are definately not as bad as couch potatoes.[-X

Thank You! for pointing this out. It never ceases to amaze me how people are continually brainwashed into believing what the meat and dairy industries spew out.
I was vegan for about a year and a half, but I just got tired of reading labels. I had no problem giving up the items, but it was such a chore reading through all that stuff. :-) I don't drink milk, eat cheese, butter or yogurt etc, but if it's in something (like a cookie) I'll eat it. For me, it's come down to moderation.
I haven't eaten beef or pork in 25 years and stopped eating chicken and fish about 10 years ago. But, I've recently stating eating salmon once in a while, because I LoVe it. Again, it's all about moderation.
And trying to find gay vegetarians?? Please....We are a minority within a minority!
