Vegas Baby!!!

Please don't get pissy people. It was a simple question.

Vegas is fine. More expensive than LA but fine. I won't change anything if people feel so strongly about going to Sin City.

*runs for cover*

More expensive than LA????

Maybe if you live there...:p

Hell, the taxi ride was a hundred bucks to Anaheim--one way.

Not to mention the cost of Disney itself---

Vegas is a true bargain. Flights are cheap and you can get a good deal on hotels as well--Maybe not Newyork Newyork---it was one of the more expensive ones when I priced out the trip--which came to less than half of the one to Anaheim last year.

But--:D

I have been shopping today---so, if I blow all my savings on crap for my apartment then I won't be able to go anyway--so, don't mind me a-tall.

*goes to price 32 inch flats screens*

You could have taken a shuttle. Free. But that's neither here nor there now. :p

Don't spend all your money. You're coming to this meet. It's a tradition. I can't go to a meet without you there. ;)

I checked, no shuttle was available--

OK let's talk about this for a moment.

You can do Las Vegas on the cheap if you stay downtown. But downtown is dangerous and dirty. Thus the plan to stay on the strip. However, the strip is more expensive.

We can plan this meet in Vegas and I can leave it up to you guys to get to where the events are or I can try to set up a group rate at one hotel and be in one central place.

The difference being - if you stay downtown and have to get to us - you're looking at expensive cab rides every time.

So. Talk to me people. Are we just absolutely set on Vegas?

Bally's--excalibur--Circus circus are all hundreds better--just priced them again.

I found great deals on the strip--I've been to Vegas many times---never stayed downtown.

 I have never been to a meet and I would love to go however finances never seem to allow. One day I will get to go.

I would vote for Vegas personally. I am not exactly a fan of Disney and if you guys go then I will have ideas for when I will be there the last week of the month. My parents are flying us out there to visit my sister. I am still a little scared about flying. I have only flown twice and that was more then 20 years ago. Yikes!

Where ever you end up going I'm sure you will have a blast.

It's ME again!

Those of you on a tight budget and who do NOT miss staying in a plush, plush, ritzy, fancy, expensive hotel on the Strip........

I recommend you look at the following lists of other hotels/locations nearby the strip where you can either take a cab or rentacar (cheap;but check the rates for the dates here).......

If you have any ?????s about the location as far as how far it is from the strip and can't find the info on the pages I gave you for reference, PM me and I'll get back with you.

IF you've never been to Vegas before, try not to miss it if you can afford it.......

K?(*8*)

****Check the following hotels for "better/cheaper" accomodations!!!!!

Even though going to Anaheim would work out somewhat/marginally better for me, I have a fairly strong preference for Las Vegas. Not all of the reasons for the preference are mine.

(1) Though Disneyland/Gay Days/Anaheim was fun, and it was a great location in general, it's sort of a "been there, done that" situation for whoever was there. I can easily imagine, though, that if a West Coast meet were to become an annual tradition, it might be fun to alternate the years between the two places.

(2) Very importantly, I'm sure that, by this point in time, there's at least one person who has BOOKED part of their trip, with plans involving Las Vegas. Very possibly someone has booked flights already. Certainly some people, who haven't booked anything official yet, have made plans to go - based on it being in Las Vegas.

(3) Some cost factors have been mentioned. Apparently some of the LV hotels are trying to draw the old crowds(in the midst of this recession) by slashing room prices. I'm not sure which city holds the advantage here, because I was more than shocked by the "cheap" Anaheim rooms last year - less than $70 directly across from the main entrance to Disneyland on a WEEKEND.

I can travel to either place, even if the venue was to be suddenly changed on October 1, but I doubt there are other JUBbers who have such flexible plans. Yes, I could deal with a changed venue (as long as it stayed in the far Southwest) - now, if the DATES changed, that would be a whole 'nother story...

I also have a couple very good friends in Las Vegas (older gay couple) - I usually stay at their place 2 or 3 days at a time. I can count on one hand all the places where I am likely to visit one or more people (in the same home) for more than a full day at a time - they're one of those very few. JUB's venue doesn't matter. Whether Anaheim or Las Vegas, I'll STILL be in both areas around the time, as the JUB meet is only one of THREE major reasons for this trip.

I've stayed downtown before at the Golden Nugget which was completely redone recently. However, it was one of the nicest downtown and was more expensive than what I just paid for a hotel on the strip.

The downtown area is also pretty quiet -- there isn't much to do there except gamble or watch the light show that takes place at night over the downtown area -- it is spectacular. The security keep the beggars and similar types out of the main areas but when you get to the street -- they are there to meet you.

It is a long walk or cab to the strip; the gay clubs are even further away.

The Luxor just cost me $50 per night...I don't think you'll find much cheaper (heck I paid $89 per night for a Days Inn near Lake Huron in Michigan while attending my son's wedding!)

The Luxor and Excaliber are also offering a $29 and $25 buffet all-you can eat all day. You pay one price and then eat all you want until 10 p.m. each day. The Wynn and several other new hotels are coming on line so I think the specials are likely to continue....

Probably going to Barcelona---Noelie is supposed to be getting married (to a guy) there.

Take many many pics guys.

I am going to work on a complete itinerary with events and locations and let you guys work on your travel arrangements including where to stay and how to get to the events.
Ok, does that mean the group rate New York New york is off?

I'll go ahead and look at booking something if everyone is just going to do their own thing.

Oh, sorry that we won't see you there - but what you're doing in lieu of it is a definite once-in-a-lifetime thing. I assume you're making a vacation out of it, and going for at least 7 to 9 days? Is Noelie's guy from Spain, or is the marriage there because it's the closest or best "official venue" currently available? (He obviously can't do this officially in his home country Ireland - but I'm guessing the marriage will allow him to bring his guy back to live legally if he's not already from Ireland??)

You won't be celebrating a birthday like 2009's again anytime soon, I don't think.

Hey, let's make a deal - subject of course to Noelie's approval - if WE take pictures in Las Vegas, you gotta take pictures on the other side of the big pond, mmmmm'kay? LOL.

Getting to Vegas I understand, and some may want to stay at another hotel outside the group for whatever reason, and that's their call. But how hard is it to get a group rate or a group concensus for the bulk of us to a particular hotel?I want to come but this sounds disorganized....it's much more convenient and practical for most of us to stay at a hotel with a negotiated group rate,in coordinating this meet.Early October is not peak season, and should be fairly easy to accomplish. As long as it's on the strip,it doesn't matter to me if it's where the group would predominantly stay,it's fine with me.Hopefully it would be fine with most of the rest planning or thinking of attending....I'm hoping that this isn't a matter of squabbling among the interested parties that has Stacy wring up her hands on this matter of the meet and saying forget it,stay wherever you want!

Let's be fair to her and to those who would attend and let's agree most of us will stay at the hotel with the best group rate....it's about a great time for jubbers to meet and socialize, not a purely personal trip one can make at another time.

Yes, I'm still planning to attend.

How many at this point, and who are some of the people, who appear to be planning on going?

I haven't thought very far along on accommodations, though, whether I'll be getting my own room or seeking to share, for example.

Making sure there are no scheduling conflicts at work, which short circuited my plans to attend San Antonio in May.I will do all I can to get there,in the next week or two will know for certain.Count me as a provisional ,very hopeful yes.

To be honest the whole meet has me wringing my hands. But I made a promise to hold a meet in Vegas and it will be held.

Just understand that I am now alone in planning this thing, so if I get bitchy it is only because it is important to me that everything go well and everyone be as happy as I can make them.

I swear to you that information will be coming soon. I will check into group rates at several hotels and try to get the best rate, but I need everyone to understand that this meet is not going to be cheap. In trying to please everyone I am also going to be selfish and please ME. So if you don't like where I've chosen or the rate I've negotiated, I'm sorry. I will do the best I can.

*PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS THREAD IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED SO THAT I KNOW HOW MANY ROOMS WE NEED*

I'm under no impression that it will be cheap, but like others I think it would be better if we could get a group rate at a major hotel.

I am still interested. If you need any help checking into hotels let me know. :)

Wha'happened?!

This was going to be my first JUB meet, and everyone's bailing. :-(

Like I said in Orion's mess, I might be there; but not 100% sure and even if i'm there I wont stay at an hotel but I'll b sharing the fun w/t u ;)

Sorrry that I did not keeping up reading this posts! Do we have a date set for this trip. I will be in Vegas on the weekend of 9/25-9/28 for a convention. Anyone interesting in hanging out please send me a message!!!!

It looks really good...I've got my fingers crossed,my legs,my eyes.....but it looks like Sausy will descend upon Las Vegas(!)and I'm looking forward to seeing Ori...I mean,Noiro- ;)and Frank again. Also hopefully meeting Lube and other Jubbers coming from outside of Las Vegas(so anyone on the fence please get off and come!:gogirl:)as well as those Jubbers living in the area.
