I'm still a vegetarian, since 1990. No complaints here. I'm not missing anything by not eating meat. I had enough of it during my childhood to last a lifetime. And I love good vegetarian food. ..| There are cultures that have been doing it for 1,000's of years and it is even easier now.
 
Well, Tuesday (17 Feb.) was one of my vegetarian days. I'm not vegetarian every day, but meat isn't the biggest priority as it was years ago.

And my meat is just as likely to be dead bird or dead fish, as it is likely to be "either of the big two" farm animals (beef or pork).

I rarely go vegan, though - many days will either include at least some kind of dairy product. The candy bar I had, says it "may" contain traces of milk, which could mean that I wasn't vegan today, either.
 
I don't want to live a long life. I want to peg it when I'm 38, dying of a drug-induced heart attack, while plowing an 18 year olds tight arse.

Seriously though (and by that, I'm not dismissing that as my ideal way of dying,) I've not got a particularly long life expectancy in my family. It's all heart-failure and brain-hemorages, so there's no point in living frugaly, in the hope of reaching old age and my diet reflects this.

Plus, I'm a poof, what the fuck do I want to be old for? The only reason I can imagine folk wantin' to live into old age is to watch thier weans and grandweans grow up. Not something that's a consideration for me. Plus, being old, means no shags unless I pay, and I won't be good-lookin' anymore. May sound horrendously shallow but I couldn't really give a fuck.

And the clincher, numero uno reason that I'm no a veggie...I don't really like vegetables. I love meat. Pretty much covers it.
 
I've been a vegetarian ALL of my life...

I suspect that it is/would be as difficult for someone that has eaten meat all their life to become a vegetarian, as it would be for me to start eating meat...

No offense intended -- but I find the concept of eating animals REVOLTING...

I am not a vegetarian, but I do not eat meat everyday. I will eat any vegetable, so is not a problem. I have a friend that has never eaten meat in his life at all, he was raised vegetarian.

The Indians have vegetarian food down. You can tell the dishes were made to be vegetarian and not some meat knock off.

Is a Vegetarian diet really all that more healthy? Most would think, yes. If that is the case, why?

This is just anecdotal, since I haven't done any indepth research just a quick google search lol, but:


"Studies have shown that vegetarians (following a well-balanced low-fat high-fibre vegetarian diet) often have lower incidence of coronary artery disease, hypertension, obesity and some forms of cancer.

A vegetarian diet tends to be lower in total fat, and vegetarians tend to eat proportionally more polyunsaturated fat to saturated fat compared with non-vegetarians. (Animal products are the major sources of dietary saturated fat)."

Less meat.

Less dairy except for yoghurt.

No processed foods.

Lots of olive oil and omega 3 fatty acids.

My kinda veggie. Cannae stand the soap-box veggies that'll brand me a savage 'cause I happen to like steak. Incidentaly, quite a few of whome are still quite partial to wearing leather.
 
Oh -- and thanks to my dad, I have HIGH Cholesterol (genetically) even though I'm in seemingly good shape...

as long as you eat properly and exercise regularly, don't worry too much about the high cholesterol from genetics. some people are just designed that way and the tests do not take that into account. There are also different forms of it...some bad...some good.

Some doctors will want to put you on medication to lower it. Before accepting that, research the pros and cons. Many of those medicines will damage your organs (liver, etc.).
 
Why do you say it is easier?

We have more food options than ever. Most restaurants offer vegetarian options and we have some very good vegetarian restaurants available as well. We also have large markets that specialize in providing vegetarian options: whole foods, health food markets, trader joes. Even main stream markets have been increasing the options in this area.

On top of that, people give me more crazy looks for being a person that does not drink alcohol than being a vegetarian. ;)

you mean that I live in a green bubble. ;) Sometimes I look at my life and it just makes me giggle. I drive out the gates of the development that I'm in and often times see bunnies and deer along the river....I mean it looks like a scene from bambi....but I'm in Los Angeles county.

I would think that new york and places on the east coast would also be green friendly....but that is only a guess.

I have been told that North Carolina is pretty good as well.

I live on the east coast and there's plenty of veggie food to eat out here ;)

There aren't any strictly vegetarian restaurants near me, I live in a small town, but there are plenty of "normal" restaurants that usually have veggie burgers. Don't forget, if you see something on the menu like a pasta dish that has meat in it, you can order the dish and tell them not to put the meat in it.

There's also a health food store in my lil town that sells tons of vegan and vegetarian foods.

But don't forget your local supermarket.

No, I understand, but if you're going to eat that "veggie meat" crap then why not just go for the gusto and eat the real thing? It's like the difference between jerking off with a Fleshlight and jerking off with a toilet tube with sandpaper rolled up in the inside.

There is a lot more to vegetarian foods than the meat substitutes. I do admit, that I do eat the substitutes on occasion. Some of it is not good, some of it is ok....and some of it is really good. It just depends. The vegan turkey that I had for Thanksgiving was awesome! dkonforst is an excellent cook but he really out did himself on Thanksgiving. Everyone (mostly meat eaters) were just amazed at how good everything was.
