  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Venting Thread 2020?

combining them

I appreciate the desire to keep things tidy, but combining can pose problems...

If it's not open dialogue, with real diversity represented, then there's no need to go sit in an echo chamber.

How true.

I left another site (maybe for a break, maybe forever) a few months ago because I got so tired of the echo chamber there. There was only one acceptable political view. And I left on my break after being involved in one battle. I'd had other battles, but this one pushed me over the edge. It's too bad, because some topics (not political) are unique. But it's hard to be enthusiastic about staying when one of the people attacking me is a regular poster, and he and someone else got so many "Likes" that I honestly felt unwelcome with staying there.

At least, I can better understand the people who quit over the years and became lurkers. Or just left.

I walked away months ago. The mods promote their own political views, delete posts willy-nilly, and interfere instead of police threads, retitling them, combining them, and generally changing the ability to post with your own voice. If it's not open dialogue, with real diversity represented, then there's no need to go sit in an echo chamber. It also is the graveyard for the deteriorating political threads from Hot Topics that are allowed for a time here until they finally shovel them off to the barn.

This is also what I don't like about it, because I don't agree with the fact that every thread made on race is "political." When threads get moved there out of the blue it in a way feels like the conversation is being shut down.

I don't know why i even bother making threads anymore ](*,)

This, I thought I was the only one! I hate it when they [SPLIT] or alter the title.

They've even deleted comments criticizing the retitling. No obscenities. No name calling. No off-topic comment, just objecting to the manhandling of something a member created and then had it drawn out into some explicit title, as if a subtle or indirect title was somehow a disservice to those scanning the forum. We all know that any thread may be about just about anything when it has a cryptic title, and that's part of the fun of discovery. I hate it.

I think it's more because it's a "no flame zone" We tend to get out of hand sometimes in HT and people think anything goes.

With a hot news item it often prevents multiple threads to have a title that is clear and on topic.

Some of the nonsense by a certain member over the last few days could lead you to believe that anything does go.

For a short time at least. They usually burn the bridge they're standing on in the long run.

But there you have it. We complain about censorship, then complain when one member is allowed to voice their opinion when we don't agree with them.

It isn't necessary. Literally NO ONE complains that they open a thread and find it something that should be renamed. Whatever the title was, that was what the creator wanted it to be known as. There should be strong reason to trample all over that.

But you missed the point that we have multiple threads made on the same subject.

Most of my threads have titles that have no relation with the threads actual topic and the MODS leave them be, i can see it being different in a strictly no flame zone like CE&P.

Nothing really to get too het up about, reminds me of that guy who had to self delete after saying Corny was being too heavy handed with people but then what could we expect as it was in the blood, poor chap was a bit of a soft touch, think people wound him up and let him go, and then when he got into trouble none of the cowardly moaners came to back him up, can't we all just pull up our britches and move on.#-o

I thought that since stores are reopening and some people are going back to work the shortages were over. I tried to order cotton socks and t-shirts on-line today from J.C. Penney. They had the t-shirts I wanted in other sizes but not in my size. They also had t-shirts and socks in a blend of cotton and polyester, but not in cotton. I had also looked at ordering jigsaw puzzles from Bits and Pieces. The ones I liked were sold out although they had some I didn't care for. My sister had ordered a patio chair and was waiting for it. She finally checked and, although they had processed her order, it was out of stock and they had cancelled her order without telling her. She ordered a different one and is waiting for it. I guess that retailers were selling what they had in stock, but haven't been getting new shipments of the popular items because manufacturers were out of work because of the pandemic.

For some reason I always tend to stay up late on the nights where I have an appointment early the next Morning, so I don't get enough sleep. Bummer.

This kind of thing upsets me because it gives the presumption that this sandwich in particular is dairy free when it isn't. I have seen people arguing over the fact that you can order without the cheese/egg, but that isn't the problem. The bun itself has dairy in it. This a problem because companies think they skirt the line with not advertising this, but they seem to forget that there are people who are allergic to dairy.

My sleeping schedule is so screwed up anymore. Barely sleeping at night and taking several naps during the day.

For awhile now I have some of the same problem. At least a couple of times a week I wake up at night and cannot fall back to sleep for 2 or 3 hours lying bored in bed.

People with yards and dogs that never let their dogs piss or shit in their own yards. The original "Curb your dog" law meant closest to the curb? Not on peoples front lawn or bushes and flowers!
