Opinion is split.

There are many who believe that Laika and Coolkid are not homos at all; that Laika, (named after the first Soviet dog shot into space), is either a poli-sci student doing a study or a paid flak/unpaid volunteer for the republican party.

There are others who believe that Laika and Coolkid are just self-hating closeted guys who just can't get beyond their own disgust for preferring cock to cunt. although most are of the opinion that neither has actually had sex as of this date.

Having had one of these working in my firm for a semester on co-op placement, I know it is possible to have a 20 something kid with opinions to the right of Attilla the Hun not be able to grasp that homos are prey to the uber conservative christian right. Their fear and hatred of anything non-white because of their upbringing apparently would only let them espouse some of the most ridiculous and hateful right-wing propaganda.

At any rate, they are output only devices. They apparently take nothing in. and do not actually engage in real debate but only derail threads by barfing up FOX news talking points or immediately get into pissing matches.

This makes them alternately ridiculously entertaining or just lip curling annoying.

That's what makes the case for Troll status. This isn't simply people with bizarre opinions, but people who serve only to antagonize or disrupt.

The secondary case for Troll status is the lying. Coolkid's is documented rather succinctly, in his being single but also living with someone, and of course his anal fisting chat with Shia LeBeouf. Laika's lies are more diffuse but a number of them could be tied back to the Prop8 case with varying claims of scoffing at gays for thinking it an equal protection clause case, but later pretending to mean it should be an equal protection case, and later saying it means people will marry horses or other beasts.

And that's the difference between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives have no problem seeking out something like a gay forum and harassing its members with their ignorant, prejudiced beliefs. I mean, I despise religion and I can't imagine going onto a religious forum and beating them over the heads with my beliefs. Conservatives just live to impose their will on other people. It's disgusting and pathetic.

Just to clarify, I mean a young closeted ultra conservative kid with similar attitude and opinions as Kaika/Coolkid. Not one of these two posters themselves.

If you don't want to hear other peoples opinions then go join the DailyKos The only reason people like rareboy, BostonPirate, and MercuryJones call people trolls is because they (liberals) are in the majority here, meanwhile Republicans are in the minority. They only want to hear their own views regurgitated back to them by others. It's sort of like gradeschool where the bullies gang up on the outnumbered.

The mods here, after interacting with them, are honestly interested in a real discussion, and acnowledge that oposing opinions are not inherently bad. The mods have the task of just impartially enforcing the code of conduct that they worked out.

I have never felt disrespected by them in any interaction I have had with them, and if anything, feel like they go out of their way to assure me that all members of the forum are equally respected.

The content is not their job to decide, just the methods by which someone expresses their opinions via posts, and they are not even paid for garnering so much anger. lets face it, if you hear from them or innitiate contact with them, you are doing so from a point of emotion or distaste over what you have read. THat means they never really hear from people unless they are complaining.

That sucks because there are two mods at this site, that I think are really cool, one of which is on this subforum, but their position as MODs makes it hard to actually appreciate them for who they are as members.

So It's not the people that are volunteering that I think is an issue so much as the general policy the site owners have created for them to work within.

I have been given invaluable advice from a few mods and its the kind of advice that is applicable in Very profound ways. Sometimes its nice having impartial feedback, both in positive and negative ways.

As we have seen in this thread, there is an ugly underbelly of arguement against gay marriage that shows prejudice and factual distortions. Those things would never be addressed if opposing opinions or anti gay comments were completely eliminated.

If they had been edited out completely, we would NOT know what others that mean us harm are saying, and we would not know how our friends feel about that either. their presence in this thread proves that the work is not done and we understand just what work we need to do.

So... anti gay spam trolling and antigay comments are two different animals, and frankly I have a hard time separating one from the other at times. For THAT reason, I always defer to them and their judgement.

I just think that the mods get alot of crap sometimes when they are only enforcing a standard decided method of interaction that we all agree to when we hit the enter button.

No, generally when they say "troll", they mean someone who posts unsubstantiated opinion masquerading as fact in a way that is almost guaranteed to set off arguments rather than discourse.

We've had our liberal trolls here, too -- though a bunch walked off in a tiff because they decided there were too many Republicans here.

You don't start reasoning about rights from the position that the status quo is correct; you step outside and ask about fundamentals. The fundamental issue here is whether there is any legitimate government authority to say that one sort of relationship can get benefits and privileges from the government but other essentially indistinguishable relationships are excluded. It boils down to freedom of association: if citizens have the right to freely association, then the government cannot discriminate between forms of association. Since we do, they can't.

What the Constitution requires, especially as expounded by the last couple of generations, is that government can't discriminate on the basis of much of anything at all, especially race, religion, sex, etc. etc. etc. Any lawyer with a brain knows that -- yet they persist in this.

Dropping back to the Declaration -- which according to more than one federal court statement has at least some level of authority -- the principle is that all humans are created equal. It doesn't say equal except in some circumstances, or equal except when religious reasons make someone want to object, or anything else that boils down to "Some are more equal than others".

That's a principle anyone educated in the West should get. But if these people insist on playing Animal Farm, I say the rest of us should treat them as pigs.
