Vermont House Overrides Veto...100 Votes

Gosh, the veto and the override while I was busy trying to achieve the extinguishing of desire! I'm assuming the Vermont Senate had already overridden the veto?

Ooops! Thanks, White Eagle.

Damn i was so excited i couldnt type straight...i meant to say "in the vermont legislature."

haha

Thankyou white Eagle for providing the Senate vote :-)

You're welcome!
I had been watching for the vote and you came up with it. I bet I would have missed it altogether if not for you. I had other things on my mind today.

4-5 down, and now only another 45-46 states and 7 principalities.

If you wish. But my remark has nothing to do with Canada and everything to do with religious whackos from out of state who orchestrated and bankrolled California's Prop 8.

Canada Uber Alles only expressed my wish that your country's vision of fairness and equality prevailed over all.

And because marriage laws are federal, which stopped Alberta's god-fearing Tory bigots from outlawing gay marriage, though they certainly tried.

I'm just happy what's her name crossed the floor when she seen how bigoted the Conservative party was about the equality of gays, probably one of the reasons we actually have the opportunities we do.

This starts out with stuff y'all already know about this. But towards the end it discusses federal involvement possibilities and other states that are preparing for this vote. Ya gotta read it all.

With Victories, Gay Rights Groups Expand Marriage Push

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Gay-rights groups say that momentum from back-to-back victories on same-sex marriage in Vermont and Iowa could spill into other states, particularly since at least nine other legislatures are considering measures this year to allow marriage between gay couples.

The Vermont Legislature on Tuesday overrode Gov. Jim Douglas’s veto of a bill allowing gay couples to marry, mustering one more vote than needed to preserve the measure.

The step makes Vermont the first state to allow same-sex marriage through legislative action instead of a court ruling, and comes less than a week after the Iowa Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriages in that state.
