Hi all. I'm a very hairy young(ish) man, and have always been very self-conscious about it. I'm fairly muscled and am always jealous of the smooth men you see in porn. Shaving my body works, but the hair grows back in a day to create very ugly stubble.

I'm a university student, so I can't afford expensive treatments such as laser. I also live in a smallish city, where I'm fairly certain no salon/spa do male waxing.

I'm thinking of buying home wax strips or possibly experimenting with nair/veet a bit.

Any suggestions? I would mainly like to do my chest/shoulders/back, although smooth arms and legs sounds nice if possible!

Thanks :)

I am very hairy as well, so I understand. I never did anything just because I didnt want the trouble and expense of all the stuff. I would do the laser treatment, but I have heard that it takes several treatments and the doctor cannot 100% guarentee that the hair will never come back.

I think that if you are in good shape, muscled, etc. thats the best thing you can do.

Sorry I cant be of more help.

I trim periodicly so I don't have the issues you do. I'd wait to get an answer regarding chemical products or look for their 800 number on a package and call with your quetions.

The hair thing goes in and out of fashion. If I were you I'd take care of the back and trim elsewhere for now.

Welcome to the club. :gogirl:

I've ALWAYS been the most hairy guy in the crowd and could give Robin Williams a run for his money.

Just means we gots more Testosterone than the other dudes. (!) At least that's what I tell myself.

Embrace it and move on. That's how we're made.

(Years ago I even ran into trouble while working Retail. My Supervisor accused me of not shaving that morning and I stood my ground. I told him 3 hours was about it for looking clean shaven. He didn't believe me and so I offered to shave and bet him $100 and a paid day off. I won.)

Most any place would wax, but don't even worry about it. There's a bunch of guys who are into it...especially if you're toned as well.

i know you pain, i hate body hair and i've had to suffer from it for ages..... and i'm only 25. it makes you feel and look 60

i've tried everything
, done the laser, it worked somewhat, it reduces thickness and the hair becomes more sporadic. but its not flawless, guys its total bullshit telling you your hair will totally go, wax strips work tyoo, and the pain is pretty minimal if you what your doing, but to wax your own back is impossible

i find it strange that a slaon wont wax guys, its not just a gay thing, all guys get hairy, and i think most hate it. hairy chests are fine and look hot,
but i too find going to a salon pretty akward and haven;t done it yet either

good luck

Nair For Men worked for me. It's not a permanent solution but it beats the shaving and clipping. I found that it takes a little longer for the stubble to grow out but it does eventually. If you use it test a small patch on your lower back first as some people have a reaction to it. One of my friends broke out in a rash the first time he used it.

it's quite possibly the bain of my life i'm not super hairy but my back pretty much matches my chest. Fortunately for me guys that i've had relations with have never had an issue with it, although if I were being honest and I met a guy with the same amount of hair as myself i'd probably steer clear.

I generally just get my back waxed which I must warn you does hurt but the benefit for me out weighs any pain.

When you first get waxed you'll probably find that you'll break out in spots, which apparantly is common for first time waxers. I've found though that the more you get waxed the easier it becomes and it does actually start to reduce the amount of growth (over a period of time).

If you're planning on a vacation or anything in particular where you'll be bare up top i'd highly recommend getting waxed 6 weeks before and then again a couple of weeks before you go.

I've had good and bad experiences with hair removal cream, paid a lot of money for some that don't do what they say and I have to leave on longer than they recommend which can cause skin irritation. I think the best one I've used was probably Veet for men, though I could list a bunch of others which for all intensive purposes just didn't live up to all of their hype.

Never tried laser treatment due to the cost involved and i've heard that it doesn't give you the desired outcome (as mentioned already by somebody). You might also hear about a "Smooth Skin" which is like a sandpaper glove. You basically use circular motions to smooth off the hair... sounded amazing till I started to read the online reviews at which point I realised it was another bull shit product that didn't do what it was supposed to.

Out of everything I'd definately recommend the waxing as the most effective hair removal treatment. ..|

That don't sound right, because I know someone that got it gone and never grow back for a long time. You must of got something that had grow all back a few small hair LOL

Or you need to laser again because those hair that grow back may never were there because around that spot the hair must of fall out during the time (or recent waxing).

As a hairy guy all I can tell you is embrace it. I was one of the hairier guys in my dorm and it was never a problem. We would all joke about me and my friend who was even hairier than I about vacuuming our chests and stomachs because the fur was so thick. I was also one of the only ones with a hairy back also - but that too was never a problem. Just enjoy being a man with a hairy chest!!!

Lasered hair certainly does grow back. What it does is it gives you a period of 5-7 weeks of clean skin. Then, the hair begins to grow back very quickly and you need another treatment. It is not permanent and should not be sold as such. Even the FDA says its not permanent hair removal. It may reduce density in certain parts of the body where hair tends to grow very slowly.

The procedure is very painful and its health effects are not really known. But it does give a short windown of hair free skin which is good.

Actually, barryash's experience is the expected result.

Body hair lasering in men generally takes 2-3 treatments- more if the hair is very dense.

Laser works by directing energy toward pigments in the hair follicle (which is why it doesn't work well for blondes and redheads). This also damages the hair follicle temporarily. In some cases, the damage is enough to prevent the hair from growing back. In most cases, the hair follicle regenerates but the hair is thinner and lighter in color- almost white-blonde in some cases.

Unless you have money, you probably want to try a combination of things.

Given the your description, waxing is probably the best option for your back and shoulders. Every town has a place that will do waxing- just ask a female friend where women get leg or bikini waxing done. The aetheticians who do waxing have seen it all and won't have a problem doing a man's back.

The first time you get waxed, you'll probably jump off the table. If you saw The "40 Year Old Virgin", Steve Carrell is really being waxed in that scene and it is very typical of the first time. After you've had it done a couple of times, it won't be as much of a shock and it won't smart as badly afterward.

Don't wear a white shirt because you'll also bleed. Wear a dark tshirt with another loose dark shirt over it. In the summer, guys usually get waxed about every 2 months. In the winter, you can do it as often as you like. After waxing, the hair will grow back in softer (i.e. no itchy razor stubble) and you'll have less chance of ingrown hairs.

For your chest, arms and legs, you can clipper weekly to the length that you want.

If you want a completely smooth feel, then use a depillatory. There are newer depillatories made for men (e.g. Nair for Men) that will take off the coarser hair that men tend to have. You should just do a small area the first time to make sure that your skin is not going to react adversely to the chemicals in the depillatory (many guys can't tolerate them). Unfortunately, it's difficult to use a depillatory on your back- it works well on the chest and legs. You shouldn't use a full strength depillatory on your groin or ass since it can cause chemical burns on areas that are more sensitive.

Take care of the back hair, and trim the rest if you really really must, you'd be surprised how many guys are into body hair, more and more.
