I can try that this weekend, supposed to be -30 Sunday. Not a good day to be out ice fishing so can play other games

um, not to be obnoxious or anything, but is there ever a good day to be out ice fishing?

I've tried the same thing on a cold day here and the hot water turns to snow almost explosively, I micro waved the water though, I didn't know it would work with just plain boiled water. I initially thought the vibrations of the microwaving had something to do with the super fast freezing, I guess not.

Why does it have to be boiling water? Why wouldn't cold water do the same thing?

That is INCREDIBLE!!!

NOW I know EXACTLY what I'll be doing next time I'm in -25 F weather (it happens 1 - 3 times per year)...

Thanks GSDX for posting it!!!

:):):)

it only works with hot water because cold water is too cold and it wont work......

This is called the Mpemba Effect.

The reason why hot water freezes faster than cold water is not quite known. Although some hypothesize that it's because the hot water is losing heat at a much higher rate than the cold water.

something to do with hotter ( higher energy level ) excited molecules wanting to get away from each other and therefore increasing the surface area contact with the cold air around them , we have snow making machines over here that spray a fine mist to achieve the same thing
