Video drivers from Sony or not

I was wondering about this but do I have to use drivers that came from Sony to update it or can I use the drivers from Intel's website? Basicly there is a more updated version of the driver for the video card I have on Intel's website but on Sony's website they have an older version still. I have a notebook not a desktop.

Why do you need the updated video card? To play a game, or...? I assume you're running into a problem with something that uses a video card - and if so - what is the exact nature of this error?

Also: have you tried just downloading and installing the driver-in-question? Even though it may not work, it's worth a shot.
 
Well my notebook has a Intel HD graphics card and I just noticed that Sonys driver update page on esupport website hasen't updated to the latest like Intel has. The reason why I wanted to update the drivers to the latest is since I thought the newer the drivers the better the games will play since alot of people say that newer drivers runs the games better than older ones.

Also it seems like my Sony video driver is an OEM type but I was wondering if it's still ok to use generic drivers from Intel since the Intel website drivers are more newer. I heard alot of people say it's ok to use generic drivers but wanted to make sure if it's really ok to use them or is it best to use OEM drivers that Sony uses.
 
Try the other drivers.
The worst that can happen is they won't work and you'll have to revert.

So it's totaly ok to use drivers that are not OEM meaning third party drivers like Intel.com website?

I did recently talk to some people and there were others that say that always use OEM drivers since those drivers are custom made and are designed to work for that computer. Meaning they might of changed the software or modified the drivers to make it work for this Sony notebook. But then of cource there are people who say it should work fine. But overall I noticed people say that to use OEM drivers.


Do you guys think it should be totaly fine to use generic drivers? Like from Intel.com website?

Intel provides generic versions of drivers for general purposes. Your computer manufacturer may have altered the features, incorporated customizations, or made other changes to your driver. Intel recommends you contact your computer manufacturer for the latest system specific updates and technical support information."

It's kind of vague, but you could shoot somebody an email (if Sony's tech support isn't too awful).
 
Ok this is what I get when I use the auto detect drivers from Intels website.

I did talk to Sony techs and they said that my sony notebook is OEM. But you can install any drivers you would like since it's your computer but if you have any problems you will need to contect Intel for support for there drivers.



Do you guys still think it's ok to use generic drivers from Intel? Or should I use the driver that is provided from Sony?
 
As I said......you can always go into Device Manager and roll back the drivers if it doesn't work.
If Intel did things the way NVIDIA does you wouldn't even be ABLE to install wrong drivers....... ;)

On the other hand.....if you are expecting miracles from a driver for an integrated graphics chip I think you will be disappointed no matter what....... :(
 
Well someone did say that I had to first uninstall the current OEM driver and then install the Intel drivers in order to work. But do you guys think it's worth to try and see if anything will be better on FPS? Do you guys always use drivers directly from Intel, nVidia or ATI? Or do you guys use drivers from Sony, HP, Dell, etc?
 
Do you know, for a fact, whose graphics chip is on the mobo?
If it's Intel's chip stay with the Intel drivers.
You can download a free utility that will identify all the mobo components which would be my next move.

Well, I got a MAC this year, so I never even worry about updates like that anymore :badgrin:

But, when I do dabble with my PC, I prefer using drivers from Intel, nVidia, ATI over the OEMstuff. That's just me! Cooler bells'n whistles, in my opinion.
 
Well I know that my notebook has Intel HD graphics card so I guess you guys are saying to use the driver directly from Intel for my video card and not use the OEM drivers from Sony right?
 
Did you run the Belarc Advisor?
If the graphics chip IS by Intel, and it most likely is, stick with Intel's drivers.
 
Ok I did uninstall the drivers that came with Sony for my video card and installed the video driver that came from Intel and so far everything is working right. I don't get any error messages so that's good. But I see that my version of driver is still looks OEM but the last 4 numbers is more updated than the older one.


My old driver version was this. 8.15.10.2182


My newer one is this. 8.15.10.2291


It seems like the generic Intel drivers detected it as OEM and just made some updates to my current one. Since the original version of the 8.15.10.2291 is 15.21.10.64.2291.


I noticed that all Sony drivers have the 8.15.10 part and the last 4 numbers is the actualy version. But it seems like that even I installed 15.21.10.64.2291 it says the current version of drivers I have is this 8.15.10.2291.

Are you experiencing a noticeable performance boost?
 
So far I have been testing with some games like Doom 3 and Crysis and I think I see a slight differnce but not that noticeable. Actualy maybe there isn't any difference or if there is it's very little. I think that the more Intel updates there drivers the more better it will be. I bet there was a increase of FPS on my games but just not that much difference. From now on I will just use the latest drivers from Intel since they update there drivers alot more than Sony does.

The bottom line is driver updates alone aren't going to turn a middle of the road performer into a superstar........but you know that now anyway....... ;)
