Re: Best Game Music Tracks

One of my favorites... Love the ghoulish tone and rad bassline. Then again, all Genesis Sonic music is awesome.

A couple others:

Re: Best Game Music Tracks

If we are talking strictly game music (scores), then here are a few that quickly come to mind for me. Although there are many games with excellent music, too many that I have time to post.

Although if we are including game songs, then this is my all-time favorite:

Re: Best Game Music Tracks

I don't really know tracks but here are a list of games I found had really good music tracks.

Tomb Raider 1, and 2.

Uncharted 2

Silent Hill Trilogy

Resident Evil 2, 3, Outbreak File #1 and 2, REmake.

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

I like pretty much anything by Jeremy Soule. He seems to be one of the few non-Japanese composers who gets noticed.

To the comment that only gamers pay attention to videogame music:
Of course! Who else actually hears it? I've managed to get non-gamers hooked when they heard game soundtracks playing in my car, but otherwise how would they know that it even existed?

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

Yoko Shimomura is God.

This theme is perfection.

Also.

This one is a beautiful arrangement/extended version of Roxas's theme. This song summarizes the characters entire life.

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

I love alot of the old SNES music, I think that was a time when graphics weren't up to much so music played a bigger part!

I think the following music pieces are awesome!

Tomb Raider Underworld Main Theme

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2GDY_cUKw"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi2GDY_cUKw[/ame]

Snake Eater from Metal Gear Solid 3

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aHQnDTd1y4"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aHQnDTd1y4[/ame]

Not strictly game music but, L'Homme Que J'Adore from The Saboteur

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

I love Tekken, Street Fighter, and some SNK themes as well. However, they generally sound very videogamey to me. Anything that's from a stage tends to be short. Without the experiences to go with it, I think it can be harder for other people to get into the tracks.

Longer tracks from newer games (past 16-bit) like things from Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross and other games where you are in the stage for a while are more accessible to non-gamers in my opinion. They sound more like regular music to me, whereas earlier tracks always sound like they came from older video games.

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

Hell yes :O

I first heard that song in this trailer. When I fought Vanitas as Ven I thought, "OMG THAT'S THE EPIC SONG". Final Mix looks awesome. That really sucks that you can play as a heartless, fight monstro, and fight the Armored Figure (Although his identity is obvious)

Oh and this is a good one too. This plays during the final episode. It's a combination of destati+fate of the unknown

Ven's theme kicks ass too. Love how it's a slightly altered version of Roxas/Sora's theme.

Can't wait til KH: 3D :D

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

Wow. Sounds like a mirrored image of Vanitas Theme :O

I like it. I tried this battle and LS raped me with his dark dome shadow doppleganger :(

I'm leveling up Terra, Aqua, and Ventus and melding so I can get their ultimate shotlocks and the ultima keyblade.

I want to know though when you get the void gear is it the red one or the gray one. The red one looks cooler. Also does it make the gear visual effects when it slashes? Did you beat MF yet?

Back on the music topic I think BBS has the best version of Dearly Beloved. It feels like a little of Ven's theme is in it.

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

I love love LOVE game music.

A lot of you have already mentioned some great songs I already know, and some I didn't, so I just want to share some of my favorites.

Love a lot of the Chrono series music. Chrono Trigger had some amazing masterpieces, but my favorite has to be Chrono Cross' opening theme "Time's Scar". It's so atypical from Squaresoft music of the time, I really love all the folk instruments and somewhat Celtic flair:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhfvhYkrCW0[/ame]

Also, got to play a game which was one of Nobuo Uematsu's few non-FF games, Lost Odyssey. Lots of great themes in this game, with a more understated tone, where his FF themes tend to be very epic and grand. Sheena Easton does all the vocal work for the music in this game and really shines in the two vocal songs. I especially like the song "Eclipse of Time", which runs through the end credits, very simple and beautiful:

I wish the Bust a groove franchise had lived on. The first game in the series had some amazing songs. Especially Kitty-N's theme, catchiest, best song ever!! Forget about Guitar Hero and all that shit, this is what music games started as:

That's one of my favourite songs from a game. The composer, Yasunori Mitsuda, has a habit of incorporating several different musical styles (even within a single game).

He also did Xenogears (among many others)

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GvpjwTM8p0[/ame]

I find this song from Baten Kaitos by Motoi Sakuraba interesting. It's very different from anything I've heard in other games.

Re: The people who create video game music are underrated!

Oh MAN! There are soooooooooooooooo many songs I don't know where to begin! Slowly but surely I'll post all I can think of but for now I'll start off with a few of my favorites and I have a lot of them lol In my opinion video game music is better than most music on the radio! ^_^

This one is a cool mix of Raise Thy Sword from Soul Calibur 2:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LQqUtB-BoA[/ame]

I love Baby Bowser's Battle Theme:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvSbbYnEc6g[/ame]

This is a very talented trumpet player:
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJqrQJr_vrc[/ame]

The Doom Dragon was a bitch when I first fought it but with training and the beautiful Iris he was no problem:

Re: The people who create video game music are und

I enjoyed the above videos posted by maxpowr9. My favorite from the Final Fantasy Series is "To Zanarkand" posted below:

I was hoping someone would bring this up. I loved Final Fantasy X's music. One of my all-time favorites. Every time I hear that song, I still imagine Tidus starting with, "Listen to my story. This...may be our last chance."

I always loved the Hymn of the Fayth as well, especially in the Kilika Sending scene:

Ugh, now I want to play that game again. Such great memories.

My work is far from done, but I don't want to overload you all more than I already have ;) Keep posting the great songs guys :D

Re: The people who create video game music are und

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the music from Guild Wars yet. That game has some beautiful instrumental music. The Eye of the North theme is awesome (its the song on the current GW log in screen I believe). HOwever, my favorite music was the song they played on the log in screen from the original, Prophecies campaign. It was a beautiful solo violin playing, and iunfortunately I have not been able to find that music yet.

I was hoping someone would bring this up. I loved Final Fantasy X's music. One of my all-time favorites. Every time I hear that song, I still imagine Tidus starting with, "Listen to my story. This...may be our last chance."

FFX has some great music too. I love thr Hymn of the Fayth as well, and love that particular scene.
